For the majority of students, I have several books that I use to zero in on what level of proficiency they currently hold and then I begin to adapt from there. Usually, each lesson starts with some warm up ear training and performing, we then transition into practice pad or snare drum exercises to help develop technique, then move on to reading and understanding notation, and finally we focus on drum kit performance and some improvisation. I also like to encourage my students to bring in various recordings of drum parts they like. These are awesome ways to get my students more excited to learn. Read More

In my teaching I make sure that my students never feel overwhelmed or confused by the material. I give them reasonable assignments based on their skill level and make sure to give them reasons for everything they are doing. I always try to help my students achieve little accomplishments in every lesson. I find this helps to prevent students from becoming discouraged or disengaged. I am always adjusting my lessons to fit the personality of the student I am working with. Read More

For beginners, I firmly believe in establishing strong fundamentals. However, you can't spell fundamentals with out "fun"! So, even while building fundamentals, music lessons should be fun and geared toward what the student wants out of all of this. Whether that's learning a specific song, style, cool musically visual trick, or just jamming, I'm here for it all! Musical journeys are specific to the individual and therefore there is no one path that all students must follow. Read More

I have been playing guitar for 10 years beginning with professional lessons, electric bass for 7, and drums for 5. Read More
