I create all my own lesson plans based on what the students are looking to achieve. I use multiple books that are a part of the drum standard teaching repertoire, and teach them in a way individual to the student that is sure to help them reach their goals. Beginners and advanced students alike, I aim my teaching towards technique, musicality and well-roundedness on the instrument. I have been teaching privately over 19 years, currently online and remotely, as well as almost 10 years at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. The majority of my students have been young, college age students between 17-30 years of age. I have also taught children as young as 4 and adults up to 69. During the first lesson I always assess where the student is the learning timeline with their instrument. I also find out what the student's goals are with music. Once this has been established we work on a plan of action to acheive those goals. Since the vast majority of drum students are primarily interested in learning drumset skills, we will start working on this from the very first lesson. I tend to break drumset studies into these general groups: skills and technique, independence and coordination, groove studies, and reading. Read More
