With children, I will stretch the basic lessons further until they have a solid foundation to build on. I write out every single lesson plan by the date and have each student do the same so that we do not lose track of where we are. To learn proper coordination I like to use the book "Syncopation" to practice playing rhythms with multiple limbs as well as learning how to read music. I like too see where the study is playing-wise and design a custom learning plan for the student and his/her goals and help them reach their goals quicker with a planned practice schedule. I also start students off with reading which helps them better understand rhythm and being able to read music is a huge plus in todays music world.
