Ms. Arlette is an amazing teacher!!! I really struggled to find a cello teacher who can work with my schedule as an adult learner and when I found her it was a breath of fresh air. We are in different states and different time zones but she never makes it hard to book an appointment. After trying out free lessons at other music schools, I found lessons with Layton are a lot more personable. He challenged me, a beginner, with rigorous fundamentals of drumming. He also fills every l esson with challenges of new grooves I’ve never heard before. For example, I went in his drum lessons thinking I would just stick with rock beats, but I learned bossa nova grooves on my second lesson. Wasn’t what I expected but I’m so glad I learned something new! His lessons opened me up to a bigger musical world. Drum lessons with Layton is a constant practice of being present, and being unified with your drums. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ARLETTE! I don’t want her to get too busy and have no time for me! Yes, you’re lucky to find her. Unfortunately, she wasn’t my first teacher, and I came in with lots of bad habit s—but she patiently fixed them one by one. Her lessons are so well organized: scales, etudes, solo pieces, and best of all, I get to play duets with her. When do you ever get to play with a professional cellist?! She genuinely likes to help. As an adult learner, I have many questions, and sometimes I’m afraid I ask too much—but you can tell she truly loves helping her students. Max had taken guitar lessons before but we had no idea he had the wrong size guitar (3/4 size). Scott noticed it right away and recommended to size down and make sure the strings are softer on his fin gers.
