Business Management AS Phillips Jr. College Drum Lessons Brighton Music 4 yrs.

Studied with well known drum instructor Jay Fenichel

Awards:

Awarded top pro status on another website 5 years ago.  Taught at 2 different music academies

Overview:

I've been teaching drums for over 10 yrs. This included teaching at a music school and a music academy. I was taught by some great teachers, one of which teaches back east and is well known. He teaches all over the world online. I took his mentorship program and found it to be quite fun but challenging too. I've played in several bands that played shows and venues here in Utah. I created a published book of my own and have used it in lessons with my students. I've done many recitals with my students at the academy I was teaching at, and I found it to be quite rewarding and memorable.

EXPERIENCE

My experience teaching started back in 2006 when I began teaching for a local music school. It was good to get some experience and I enjoyed it. I then started to teach for a website service and got top pro status for this site. Top pro status meant keeping and retaining students, and getting great reviews. I then started teaching for music academy in Sandy and was there over 4 years. I really enjoyed teaching there. I was able to do many recitals and I often received many thank you cards and gifts from parents.

METHODS USED

For beginning students, I use a couple of different method books including one of my own. I also focus on what rhythm really is and try to get the student to develop timing skills and reading skills too. I like to teach songs for several reasons, one being it teaches the student to develop certain skills and timing skills that are necessary for the student. I cover rudiments, snare drum reading, fill development, rhythm chart playing, subdivisions of notes. More advanced students I like to teach books that are a little more challenging, also more challenging songs and concepts too.

LESSON STYLE

Seeing my students perform a recital and learn other concepts on drums was a rewarding experience for me. It was the greatest gift of all sort of speak. My style includes but not limited to teaching from method books then moving to songs or a combination of both. I try to tailor my lessons to what the student wants to achieve and learn, such as a particular style. I also like my students to learn how to read and learn song structure and learning the various aspects of reading sheet music. I also teach technique which is important, in drums avoiding injuries, and using good ergonomics and posture.

At 54 years old i decided I wanted to play the drums!? Well 4 years later I am still going to see Dave every week. Dave is a great teacher, he keeps me motivated and enthused. I like the challenge and hope to someday be as good as Dave someday. Highly Recomended!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
