ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelor Degree: NYU Steinhardt
Overview:
I’m Ursula Seymour, a professional vocalist, songwriter, and music educator with over 15 years of performing experience and 8 years of teaching. I earned my Bachelor's of Music in Music Business from NYU Steinhardt, where I received four years of intensive vocal training in both classical and contemporary styles. My education there laid a strong foundation in voice technique, theory, performance, and music industry knowledge. I specialize in contemporary genres such as pop, R&B, soul, and musical theatre, while also having experience in classical and choral music. In addition to voice, I teach beginner piano and enjoy supporting students as they build musicianship from the ground up. I’ve taught private voice and piano lessons both in person and online, and have also worked in classroom settings, led group music classes, and directed student bands. My teaching space is designed to be warm, encouraging, and fully equipped for productive lessons. Whether working with kids, teens, or adults, my studio is a welcoming environment where students can feel free to take risks, grow their skills, and express themselves musically.
EXPERIENCE
I’ve been fortunate to work with students of all ages—from young beginners to adult singers returning to music—and I truly love teaching. Over the years, I’ve taught at several well-established private music schools and community music programs, guiding students through recitals, school musicals, auditions, and personal creative projects. Many of my voice students have gone on to land lead roles in their school musicals, including Hairspray, Annie, Frozen Jr., Something Rotten Jr., and Aladdin Jr. I take great pride in helping students feel prepared, confident, and proud of what they’ve accomplished. I’ve also helped shy beginners take the stage for the first time and watched them grow into expressive, enthusiastic performers. My favorite part of teaching is watching a student light up when they realize what their voice is capable of. I love connecting with each student and helping them tap into their unique musical potential. Teaching is something I genuinely care about, and that energy comes through in every lesson.
METHODS USED
I create custom lesson plans for each student based on their goals, experience level, learning style, and musical interests. A typical voice lesson includes vocal warmups, ear training, style exploration, and repertoire work. I draw from vocal anatomy, healthy technique practices, and real-world performing experience to build strong, versatile singers. For piano students, I introduce music theory, rhythm, and note-reading in a clear and creative way that emphasizes musicality and confidence. I also assign weekly practice goals—what I call “homework”—which may include warmups, new songs, or specific technical challenges to focus on between lessons. Over time, students build a personal repertoire of songs that not only suit their vocal range and personality but also reflect the music they love, whether that’s pop, R&B, musical theatre, or original songwriting.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is personalized, encouraging, and student-centered. I meet each student where they are, whether they’re preparing for an audition, performing live, writing their own songs, or singing just for fun. I believe lessons should feel supportive and motivating, with the right mix of structure and creativity. I set realistic goals that keep students progressing steadily and celebrate each breakthrough, no matter how small. I love helping students discover what makes their voice unique and giving them the tools and confidence to use it with joy and freedom.

Hiring Ursula to support my daughter’s singing and musical development has been a complete success! I’ve been impressed with how professional Ursula is - she arrives prepared with high interest material and on time to every meeting. My daughter had been very shy of “sharing her voice” with those outside of our immediate family, and Ursula, being very relatable, immediately broke through with her. After a couple of meetings, my daughter auditioned for role in a musical and got the part! Prior to the experience working with Ursula, her anxiety and lack of confidence had led to her canceling auditions. Their meetings have been engaging and fun ever since the first session, with my daughter trying her best and really stretching throughout the weekly lesson. My daughter’s confidence has grown and I credit Ursula with enabling this positive development!

My daughter had her first lesson with Ursula and literally by the end of the session I heard such a difference in her vocals, the confidence she gained and the self awareness of knowing how far her range could go was just amazing. Ursula gave her so many techniques that helped tremendously. Not to mention her overall personality! We instantly felt comfortable. She was very warm, sweet, inviting and has impeccable communication skills-l never had to question her or double back on anything. My daughter is so excited to continue working with her (she wont stop practicing around the house lol) and I cannot wait to hear the development in her voice. Ursula is TRULY a gem!
