2009 - East Bay Jazz Festival - Outstanding Performer Musicianship Award
2010 - East Bay Jazz Festival - Outstanding Performer Musicianship Award
I began teaching music in 2009 as a tutor for the local junior college teaching music theory and musicianship. I expanded to voice and guitar lessons and have been teaching for the last 12 years. I teach in my home studio, in my students homes and online. I know that consistent practice is the way for students to reach their music goals and so I make sure that each student knows what to practice and how to practice. I am always trying to instill enjoyment in each lesson and I positively encourage and edify each accomplishment. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
I believe in encouragement, fun and positive focus on the students progress at whatever speed that they progress. This makes each student look forward to each lesson with eagerness and actually accelerates their progress. I never push a student and instead encourage and edify the student and try to use their own favorite pieces of music to keep them excited about their next lesson. Acknowledging small progress is the key and I never let a student leave without celebrating their accomplishments no matter how small!
Very excited to have John as my first ever vocal coach. He is so knowledgeable. In only two lessons my voice has already improved! I appreciate his teaching style. He has a very structured program that is at the same relaxed and personalized to my singing needs. Looking forward to more lessons, more improvement and more growth!
John is an incredible teacher! He asks what your goals are and shapes his lessons in a way that helps you achieve them. He listens, is very attentive and is very knowledgeable. I always look forward to our lessons!
John was an amazing teacher. He is the most musically knowledgeable person I know! John is an excellent communicator and listener and I have never felt more comfortable with a teacher. He gave me more confidence than I could ever imagine having when it comes to performing in front of a crowd. Thank you John!
John was the best teacher! I never wanted to sing in front of a crowd & he gave me the confidence to sing & learn melodies I never thought possible! He is beyond patient & so talented.
John is such an amazing musician, the combination of his musical education and experience combined with his ability to connect and engage with people is a unique and rare combination. Could not recommend this gem of a human more!
I met John through my spiritual center. He was one of the musicians who performed there. This was probably 20 years ago. I have always loved his artistry in playing the guitar. I bought a guitar and started taking lessons with John and we'd get together every week for practice. It was a joy to learn from John and thinking back I really miss it. I would definitely recommend John. He's easy going and has a great sense of humor and you'll want to go back for more lessons. I do.
John is an excellent singing coach. He asked me what I wanted to get out of the lessons and he actually listened! Tayloring the lessons for my specific end goal. And the plan was well thought out and fun! He has a broad depth of knowledge that is not only helpful but very interesting. He's obviously been doing this for a long time. He gave me confidence to enjoy singing for myself and in front of others. Thanks John!
John is an outstanding guitar teacher – My lesson with John was like drinking out of a firehose. John knows everything there is to know about all aspects of your music journey – the music theory underlying the songs you study, the melodic and compositional techniques used in the song’s melody as well as your improvisations, the guitar mechanics and fingering technique required to play in any setting, and the harmonic structures you need to play any song on the guitar. John is a clear communicator and a great listener as a teacher – he will focus closely on your goals and provide you with the methods you need to achieve them. Thank you John!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
