Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I am motivated to keep students constantly engaged and passionate about their instrument! As a multi-instrumentalist I always play different instruments with students to give them a sense of playing in a group, which is what music should be all about! I also do my best to acknowledge the students strengths and weaknesses and take some time aside in class to speak to them about them. I believe it is important to have positive feedback but also to recognizes areas in which students can improve. Read More

I began teaching at Humboldt State University in 2010, through an education program for children ages 6-15. I've been teaching since college, teaching percussion ensembles and private percussion lessons, before eventually branching out into teaching private lessons on all the instruments I know! Since my time as a teacher, I've worked with hundreds of students and have become proud of all the growth I've seen in them. Working with so many students has also been educational for me as a teacher, and I've begun to develop methods through that experience that I can bring to new students. Read More

My style caters to each student individually, we all have an idea on what we want out of our instrument. Some people just want to jam and others want a career, Im here for both. Wherever you want to be on that grid, I can get you there. Growing up, i wanted to be a drum tech rather a performer..crazy right? As i progressed in school, i realized "tech" skills served more than i thought. Read More

To witness students making progress and share their passion for music is quite rewarding. I love to see how teaching music can also affect students in their personal lives. Some teaching methods can be translated to everyday life challenges. From my experience, learning an instrument or music, in general, can help tremendously to deal with day-to-day struggles or even mental state. It can help to deal with depression or ease some pain related to difficulties in their personal lives. Read More
