Overview:

Since the age of three, I've been in love with music. Wether it was the home or car, music was a part of my life. In 2005, I graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA degree in music performance. While attending college, I traveled to France, South Africa & New York on various occasions. As a professional in Los Angeles, I've played for " Aly & AJ ", " Lauryn Hill ", " Mozella " & " Lou Gramm " to name a few. I've performed major corporate events for Pepsi, Coca-Cola, IBM & others. I'm am an example of hard work and dedication. I want to pass my work ethic to the next generation.

EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching privately since my college days at Western Michigan University. I've been fortunate enough to study classical ( western european ) and jazz music/percussion with Judy Moonert and Billy Hart. I currently teach at Musician's Institute in Los Angeles, Ca In my time spent with Judy & Billy, I learned how to be a working professional in the West Michigan music scene. Because of there help, I was able to gig ( work ) around town and make money while I was in college. My time spent as Musician's Institute has showed me how to propel students to the best version of themselves. Instead of trying to change them, I aspire to uplift & fine tune what's already there.

METHODS USED

From beginner to advanced, I believe in the classic's like " Ted Reed's Syncopation ", " Stick Control " & " The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary As Taught by Alan Dawson ". I believe the best tool is MUSIC. Playing along with music or musicians will ultimately help the most. But fundamentals are a must. Push/Pull or Open/Close Technique will help develop hand speed around the drum set. Finger technique will help with fast drum patterns and single stroke roll speed. It's a good tool to have when you need an explosive sound on the drum kit.

LESSON STYLE

I've learned to be honest with myself as a teacher. The same methods, books, practice routines don't work for everyone. I believe in understanding the needs, wants & goals of each individual. Academic & Instinctual should blend together as one. Animal from " The Muppets " has an influence as much as my college professor. I see nothing wrong with rewarding the student for work well done. There's a way to WORK & CELEBRATE with humility. I want to instill CONFIDENCE. When the confidence is present, the sky is the limit.

I have been taught by Jevin for several months and I had one of the best lessons I ever had. Through his many years of experience, he can teach almost any styles you like and teaches in you in great details. He knows exactly the details that you need to work on and strengthens it. Definitely worth getting lessons from Jevin compared to others!
