I started teaching right after graduating from Berklee at a school where I actually took lessons during my high school years! It was such a special experience and it made be fall in love with helping people achieve their musical goals and dreams, regardless of how big or small they are. There are few things more special than when a student wants to learn a song and we work on it, lesson after lesson, in as much detail as possible and when they finally get it... that look in their eyes is priceless! As soon as I meet with a student or a group of students, I make sure they are welcomed by an energetic teacher before getting started on their lesson. I try to keep the student(s) engaged by showing them different ways and approaches to music from books and my own personal approaches to help them grow knowing their teacher is well experienced. Since their is a lot for a percussionist than just playing with sticks on a drum, there is no doubt that the endless possibilities in teaching students the various instruments will help keep them engaged as well being more excited about music. During the first lesson I always assess where the student is the learning timeline with their instrument. I also find out what the student's goals are with music. Once this has been established we work on a plan of action to acheive those goals. Since the vast majority of drum students are primarily interested in learning drumset skills, we will start working on this from the very first lesson. I tend to break drumset studies into these general groups: skills and technique, independence and coordination, groove studies, and reading. Read More

Here's how many drum lessons I've taught: An average of 15 lessons per week times 50 weeks since 1993. 15 x 50 is 750 per year. 25 years of 750 lessons is 18,750, and I have fine-tuned my lesson plans all along the way. Between 2013-2018 I taught a minimum of 30 lessons weekly and had to employee an assistant (an advanced student) to teach my beginners. My students often see me for years. I have taught at Berklee College Of Music's Summer Percussion Festival, School Of Rock, IKnow Music, Join The Band, Santa Monica Music Center, Modern Music, Pop/Rock Academy, Pedrini School Of Music, Walpole Music, and Boston Music Co. I began as a private lesson teacher as a young college student. Over the years, I have been a percussion teacher for multiple schools from the elementary to the high school level. I have taught a class of beginner drummers to be a cohesive drumline in less than a school year. I have had many one-on-one students as well, ranging from age 3 to adults as well. My versatile experience helps guide all of my students to reach their goals as a musician and beyond! Read More

One of my strengths as a teacher is being able to adapt to wide variety of learning styles and skill levels. I don't teach all my students the exactly same way, because not all students learn in the same way. I am all about creating a fun, positive learning environment. I am proud of the fact that many of my students I have today I have had since I started teaching, and I think a big part of that is the relaxed but productive learning environment I strive to create. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
