Evan Michael H. started playing drums at age 5 and never looked back. Born into a musical family, Evan got his first stage experience in a family band with his dad. As teenagers, Evan and his friends created the rock band Escapist and performed at venues across California’s central coast. In 2010, Evan co-founded the rock band STAGE 11 where he's performed drums and other percussion across three albums, multiple residencies, and dozens of independent concerts across LA, including opening for Jefferson Starship at Whisky-a-Go-Go in 2018. But more importantly for me, is that I understand that people, especially now, want to start playing songs as soon as possible. So, I immediately teach them chords and scales. For all of my students I start by allowing them to sit and feel the kit. Building a strong trusting relationship is important. I then proceed to dive into teaching simple 4/4 grooves to loosen the student up which processes into teaching basic rhythm studies and eventually the concepts of feel, groove, dynamics and of course timing. When I'm not performing, I keeps himself busy with his teaching schedule by teaching throughout Orange and LA County. As of this updated bio due to COVID-19 (Nov. 2020), I have been doing a hybrid format of teaching, primarily through Zoom with some in person instruction while maintaining orders of social distancing and wearing masks.
