After my own experience with it as well as teaching it, Suzuki has great techniques and music for getting students experience in sight-reading, ear training, and memorization. With the youngest students I start with the fundamentals such as naming the different parts of the instrument and some basic rules with notes. Acronyms and games are always the best way to memorize the different rules. I write out detailed lessons plans for each individual student, constructed specifically for their learning process. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have studied classical piano for 10+ years with the Field Studio, Myra K Garvette, and the Westport School of Music, as well as at Fairfield University. I also have chamber music ensemble experience, having gone to CAM Camp and working with piano trio and quartet ensembles under Millette Alexander. I also have accompanying experience for church and school choirs, and have been on the worship team at my local church. Read More

I strongly believe that learning is an extremely personal endeavor. I am very sensitive to each student's style of learning. I like to get to know what inspires each student and help them fuel their own inspiration. I really think the learning should come from them. Sometimes I see myself as a facilitator, helping ushering in the calling that is already within. I am very good at helping the student set realistic goals. Read More

For Beginning students or kids from 3 years old, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and also some other theory to help them to read the notes on staff. Once Student slightly progressed, I will begin to start shop pieces with another finger technique etude, to building stronger and solid finger and also I would recommend some music repertories to listen to it, just for building music expression. For the Adult or Teenager, I would like to know what kind of music brings them here, and we can set that piece what they eventually want to play as a goal, and helping student build and practice the technique. I am sure, I was born a teacher, because when I explain anything, even in piano class, guitar or voice classes, I can see the reactions of the student when they understand me. They feel so happy and I feel so proud. From 1980 to 2013 I was piano and guitar player for a lot famous singers like "El Indio Araucano and Leo Marini and many more in the New City area. Read More

In the past four years at Northwestern University, I consistently taught music to students in their homes privately. I encouraged regular practice and a consistent weekly schedule, especially for younger students. I believe that the faster students see positive results of their hard work, the more likely they are to remain passionate and excited about their musical careers. I enjoy preparing my students for concerts, recitals, school talent shows (and any other opportunity) by maintaining high standards, efficiently using lesson time, and combining pedagogically sound teaching with an excellent model for my students to mirror. What does a normal practice session look like for you?
A normal practice session for me is no different than what I expect from my students. For wind instruments I start out with some long tones, scales, arpeggios for ten minutes. Classical studies fro ten minutes. And improvisation for ten minutes. Then I take a ten minute break and go back over things I think I missed in scales, arpeggios I will go slowly go through things that I think need work. If I see that I have a problem playing something I will find supplementary material to gain more technique.

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I have an undergraduate degree in music education. It was my intention at that time to pursue a career in teaching. Aside from the stability of a teaching routine I get great satisfaction out of helping others. What I found, out along the way, is that students have taught me a lot of things and their successes have lead to me greatly modifying and enhancing my instructional materials and techniques. Also teaching different instruments has enhanced my overall abilities as a musician and an instructor.

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My most immediate goal is to play in a symphony orchestra. That is really my dream job. I am working on learning all the literature that I need to know in order to play at that level. I also may need additional instruments for a position like that. For example clarinet players may need an Eb clarinet or a bass clarinet in addition to a Bb and an A. I am looking at these opportunities and working on the music every day. The fact that I striving for this level of excellence will hopefully give my students some idea of how they need to approach their own goals.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I tried sales for a few years. It really wasn't for me. I worked as a public school teacher and I wasn't thrilled with that either. What I am doing now is good. I like private teaching and eventually I would like to play more classical music in either a symphony orchestra or in a ballet or opera company. I am also focused on being a soloist in the classical genre. The focal point of my practice is classical music and jazz studies. Commercial music does not interest me as much. I do not like to play in bars or clubs. Those places have too scary creatures.
