My gift is understanding concepts and explaining them in a way people can understand (and adapting it to their learning style). I try to combine the best aspects of the instruction I received on piano and guitar, with useful and practical concepts (and styles) I had to seek out on my own. Typically I work out of the Ernie Ball How To Play Guitar books (Phases 1 and 2), while also incorporating popular songs (including songs the student wants to learn, as soon as they are compatible with his/her skill level). There are many different methods, practices, and philosophies that one can use when teaching drumming, and the most effective approach will depend on the individual student and their needs and goals. Here is a general overview of some approaches that I might use when teaching drumming: 1. Begin with the basics: Before diving into more complex rhythms and techniques, it's important to establish a solid foundation of basic drumming skills. This might include proper hand and foot technique, basic rhythms, and an understanding of the different parts of the drum set. 2. Read More

For piano beginners who are children, Ibegin withthe John W Schaum method. For piano beginners who are adults, Ibegin withthe Beyer book for the piano. This is quickly supplemented with chord studies. For guitar students, we discuss what style(s) of music most interest them, and take it from there. For students who are not beginners, on any instrument, Ican pick up right where they left off. Read More

I base my students' curriculum on their individual needs and interests. I strongly believe in learning fundamentals and the principals of music through scales, music theory, ear training, and reading music notation. I believe it is equally important for students to develop their own musical interests and goals so that we can apply all of the practiced skills in a fun and meaningful way. An example of this would is if a student wanted to learn a Beatles song I would have the student learn the chords and melody, but also the associated major/minor scale that song uses and develop an exercise that would be helpful towards learning the song. What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My dream piece to perform would probably any song that I have written. I don't feel the need to learn other people's music because I don't see where that will get me in life. My students can learn any piece they want to learn if they feel that they will become a better musician that way. I will definitely teach my students how to write their own music if they want. I have heard so many songs in this world that I think people will get tired of them eventually. That is why I choose to write songs and not learn other people's songs.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I don't think I would be doing anything instead. The problem with me is that I have some disorders that keep me from having a normal job. I believe there is something wrong with the Basal Ganglia part of my brain. There mustn't be enough metabolism, oxygen, and blood flow going to that part of my brain. I am getting tested soon by neuropsychologists to see what exactly is wrong with me. I think I have Basal Ganglia Disorder. The symptoms for this disorder are exactly what I have wrong with me. These symptoms are: ADHD, poor memory, loosing the thread of a conversation, and tics from head to toe, internally and externally.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I don't know if I have a favorite style or genre of music to play. I guess style wise, I like to play a lot of notes and play fast. I could also play slow and consistent as well. I like to be creative and have a nice artistic input when it comes to creating songs or helping others write songs and parts. I do like playing some sort of rock music the most. For piano, I like playing any genre. For drums, I like playing loud stuff, but I could also pull out a pair of brushes and play some soft jazz music that I am creating for my jazz album.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I started out on guitar. My uncle taught me a few chords. A few weeks later, I started teaching him. That is when we realized that I had a musical gift. I have something called perfect pitch, which one out of ten thousand people get. I used that perfect pitch to help teach me other instruments. Piano was my next instrument. Every year after that I would get an instrument that my dad would buy me. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be able to teach myself how to play so many instruments. I taught myself many instruments and after about 23 instruments, that's when I stopped counting and just started telling people that I can play any instrument. I can probably play at least 10 instruments proficiently and play along to any song or genre with those instruments. If I had more time in this world, I would be able to perfect my skills on every instrument.

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
My mom sings in the shower and my dad plays drums on his stomach. However, my uncle is a hippy and stuck in the 1960's. I learned a few chords on guitar from him and a few weeks later, I started teaching him guitar as if I played it for many years. My brother also plays a lot of instruments but sadly, he doesn't have perfect pitch like me. I wish he had it too so that he could tune his own guitar at practice quickly instead of having me do it, even though I enjoy tuning other people's instruments.

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
As soon as I played my first instrument at the age of six years old, I knew right then and there that I would play music as a profession for the rest of my life. I always wanted to be famous and use my skills to help other people. Playing music at benefits to help raise money for organizations is a great way to help save the lives of many people all over the world. I want other people to learn how to play music so that they can use it as their profession and help other people around the world with their musical skills.
