I have been teaching as a side-gig and hobby for almost as long as I've been playing! It started with friends in the neighborhood approaching me for advice on how to get started playing guitar. In my years in the Baltimore/DC area, I took private students for extra income outside of my dayjob. Now in New Orleans after years of grinding as a performing musician, I've increased my roster of students as a rewarding and less stressful way to have a music centered career, primarily with guitar and drums. I understand that as a teacher, my job is to not just teach the instrument or a song, but to inspire a deep, passionate love for music. The teachers that had the biggest impact on me and that I enjoyed the most were the ones who cared the most about my relationship to the music I was playing. Because of this, I make sure the student is always engaged in what they are playing and are enjoying it. Read More

Concept teaching is the most effective for advancing the musicians development. Teaching specific details and then showing how they can be moved and manipulated for a greater concept theme will give the students confidence that they actually understand what is happening musically from plenty angles and the ability to maneuver through the music and instrument as seamless as possible. Taking it bit by bit will allow for laying foundational bricks that will be an anchor for concept building. Read More

I suit my lessons to the individual needs and goals of the student. For beginners, I typically begin out of a method book, but I also use studies and etudes that I have developed on my own in the course of my teaching career. Throughout the learning process, I engage the student with real music to build listening skills, and teach concepts like tone, phrasing, and expression. I also teach all of my students music theory and listening analysis because I believe this is a neccessary component of a strong musical foundation. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own place. I encourage this by setting goals and assignments for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I am a huge music enthusiast, and love almost every discipline from classical to pop. I am primarily a classical pianist, and I have been taking lessons for about 10 years from an adjunct professor at Tulane University, but I also enjoy playing jazz/blues and pop. In addition to playing, I compose many of my own piano pieces, as well as create arrangements of popular songs and produce music electronically. Read More

I am a skilled and passionate instructor, composer, pianist, and organist as well as a graduate of Loyola University New Orleans. Initially self-taught on the piano, I had my first experience with lessons on the organ thanks to the charity of Dr. Marcus St. Julien, and I want to pass that spirit of mentoring on to every student I meet. I am experienced in and passionate about all kinds of classical music, ranging from Bach to Beethoven to Ravel, Prokofiev, and Schoenberg, and I also have a background in jazz and pop music.
