I've taught privately for over 30 years and have been teaching from my home studio in South Pasadena since 1994. Everyone who studies with me deserves as thorough a musical education as I can give them. I discuss both short and long term objectives with all new students (or their parents) before the first lesson. While its important for the teacher not the student to establish the course of study, I believe that sticking to a rigid ideology is a mistake. Read More

I also led the weekly performance programs with up to 25 students, preparing them for seasonal shows at popular venues. I have extensive in-home and online teaching experience as well, which includes arranging optimal commute schedules and recitals at schools and theaters. So, whether the student is a kindergartner singing ABC by Jackson 5, a 14-year-old learning recording basics, a 19-year-old preparing for a national theatre competition, a 40-year-old learning melody writing, or a 70-year-old learning the keys to Tell Me Something Good by Rufus, I can creatively adapt to the student's unique learning style and background on many different instruments. Seeing people pick up an instrument and learning to create music has always been really cool. I learned to play the drums at age 11, and after taking piano classes in high school, I went to Cal Poly Pomona to study music composition. It was during this time that I began providing lessons in both instruments to students of all ages. The best part for me is always that moment when it clicks with the student. Read More

My methods depends on the skill level and interest of the student. Fundamentals are key, but I always try to incorporate them with music that the student is interested in learning. I believe that music should never be boring, and practicing should never be a chore! I also believe that musicians of all skill levels can and should improvise, as it is a fundamental form of creative expression that is often overlooked by classically trained musicians. Read More

I am a composer and performer who relishes music education! I hope to be a perfect fit to your needs as a teacher and I am determined to bring the best out of you, whether a beginner, intermediate or advanced student. I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where I majored in Contemporary Writing Production (Music Production Arranging) as well as Jazz Composition. At the college, I had to privilege to perform with Arnie Roth at the Boston Symphony Hall as a violinist, as well as perform and record with microtonal pioneer, David Fiuczynski on Drums. Read More

The most important thing in my lesson is to have fun. I really care if students are having fun, and I will always find a way to bring them a great joy of playing music. Another thing that's really important is to make sure that students are learning what they truly wants to learn. In the begging of lesson, I always ask a student about what they want to learn specifically. Read More

As soon as I meet with a student or a group of students, I make sure they are welcomed by an energetic teacher before getting started on their lesson. I try to keep the student(s) engaged by showing them different ways and approaches to music from books and my own personal approaches to help them grow knowing their teacher is well experienced. Since their is a lot for a percussionist than just playing with sticks on a drum, there is no doubt that the endless possibilities in teaching students the various instruments will help keep them engaged as well being more excited about music.
