Hello! Luke here! I'm a enthusiastic and motivated teacher who enjoys nothing more than watching students progress and discover the language of music! In 2011 I graduated from The University of North Texas with a Bachelors degree in Jazz Drumset Performance. Since then, performing all over the world has been the driving passion in my life. For my intermediate students, I will teach them all 12 major keys and the circle of fourths and fifths and how they interplay with song writing and chord progressions. I will then teach them the chords of the scales and turn the chords into progressions and into songs. For my advanced students who know all of their scales and chords, I will tailor the lesson around what they seek to learn and improve on. Read More

I require my students to put in the work to make these lessons a worthwhile investment, but I think the most important thing is to retain the joy of taking piano lessons. I don't want practice to feel forced, however I do think there is a certain amount of will power that goes along with learning a skill. Therefore, I require students to do a time minimum of practice appropriate for the age and skill level. Read More

I was also coached with Ariel Quartet for chamber music and performed in masterclasses for Aviram Reichert, John O'Conor, Min-kyung Kwon, Boaz sharon, Yong-hee Moon, Alexander Korsantia and Yoshikazu Nagai, among many others. What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Choose quality over quantity every time. Often times, there are events in our everyday lives that we can't pass up on and some times that effects our practice schedule. When faced with situations such as these, it's better to refine your session to one idea and really get it down rather than trying to cram as much in as possible. Take small, controlled steps when taking on a big project. Heavy leaps can result in error and cause frustration. Slow and steady wins the race and music is a life long practice.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
A good sign that you're kid is ready for private lessons would be if they take sharp interest in music early on or if they're seated within the top chairs of the instrument section they're in. Students who take interest early on might develop a good ear by singing accurately to songs they hear on the radio, are able to produce an uncanny amount of sound on their instrument for their age or perhaps can sight read easier than most others. The easiest way to find it would be to simply ask but that's when knowing your child's behavior is best. Some times a kid will think they're already good enough and they don't need guidance and other times they may be too shy.
When will I start to see results?
It's important to have goals or have a general idea that you want to complete for the student but it's also important not to think about specific dates for reaching a specific results. This ideology can lead to too much pressure and cause stress. If a student does their work efficiently and keeps a consistent pattern, results will come. You can start to see results within a few days or weeks, depending on much time a day you have to dedicate to your practice. The important thing it to not get overwhelmed. Patience is a virtue!
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Yes! My high school band camp instructor inspired my friend and I to pursue music professionally. We had already been interested but he really refined our thought process on a lot of things musically and non-musically that helped shape me into the person I am today. His skill and knowledge was inspiring because he made everything look so simple. This way of thought really caught my attention when I was a student. He's still very active in the music composition community which means he's still influential to me.
