Overview:

I'm a well motivated instructor who enjoys working with students of any age. During and after college I found it rewarding to work with students in a classroom and private setting.Over the past 40 years my students recieved the same in depth musical education that I recieved with an added bonus due to my success and expirience as freelance musician.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience began in the Chicago public and private schools in the 1970's. Wanting to have the ability to work with a student on a one on one basis, I went into business for myself as a private teacher. From 1976 to 2010 I taught music in a music store that I co-owned in the Chicago area. During that same period I worked with several universities with the Methods of Private Instruction in the area of Music Education. Currently I work from a private studio in my home.

METHODS USED

For the child and adult alike I begin with different types of instuctional material. Since instuctional materials use similar but somewhat different ways of presenting concepts, I use the the series that will allow the student to grasp and master the fundamentals. The older student, along with learning the fundmentals, will also explore their interests. I'll begin tailoring their lessons to include their interests as well as other genres.

LESSON STYLE

It is rewarding to see a student achieve a strong desire and a sense of accomplishment when they begins to play the instrument of their choice. I believe that a person should learn at their own pace. With that in mind I try to set realistic goals and make each lesson understandable. Acknowledging their success helps build their confidence and knowledge which translates into the student wanting to practice more.
