I start lessons with new students by asking what they would like to learn and ask what their overall goal is so I can better adjust lessons to achieve the students hopes and goals. For beginner students I start with helping them understand the parts of the instrument which I believe can help a student better understand how it works and therefore how to better perform on it. I do believe that while scales, arpeggios, and exercises are very important it is also very important to create fun exercises that are actual music instead of just a scalar excercise, because at least for me playing scales for an hour a day is not why I got into music. I currently play drums for the hit Broadway musical (non-union version) of Rock of Ages and when I'm not on the road; I'm teaching. I’m an avid columnist for Modern Drummer Magazine and I sing/play guitar for one of Chicago's best Nirvana tributes called Smells Like Nirvana. I studied at Berklee College of Music and I have a huge passion for teaching. I offer the option for students to get their lessons recorded via audio/video so they have a reference to stay on task for their next lesson. Read More

I love arranging my younger students favorite songs that they hear on the radio so they can play them on the piano, sometimes even playing rhythm video games on my Nintendo 3DS to brush up on their music theory skills :) I want my students to finish a lesson feeling like the possibilities that they have with music are endless.
