I have over 25 years of teaching experience and my relationships with former students have remained very warm. This is due to my love for my students and my work. It is impossible to instill a love of music in a student without contact and respect. In addition to the love of music and the instrument, I also aim to instill an interest in art in the student as a whole. Read More

I started teaching towards the end of high school and continued in college and beyond! I found it beneficial to be teaching students while still being a student myself. Having great teachers in my life has shaped my own approach to teaching. I discovered that when I was able to study what I was truly excited about, my capacity to learn and improve my craft increased exponentially! To that end, I encourage students to bring in original material as well as "covers" that they are interested in to build a repertoire. Read More

I believe that all students deserve to have a relationship with music. I am currently a Junior at Bradley University and am studying music education. Since 2009 I have participated in numerous musicals, operas, and ensembles and have had many leadership and teaching roles within these experiences such as directing, choreographing, and teaching music, as well as coordinating schedules and communicating with cast/ensemble members, faculty, and parents. At Bradley, I am taking classical voice lessons as well as piano, saxophone, and composition. Read More

Over the next fifteen years, my teaching continued in these two settings: studio teaching, as well as private lessons given in my home or the home of my students. Read More

My teaching approach focuses primarily on tone production - I think this is the most important fundament to teach young students. I like to use the Hal Leonard Essential Elements or equivalent beginner book (Hovey, Rubank for clarinet) to start the student off, but as they become more advanced, it's important to introduce repertoire to them. I allow the student some individuality here - what kind of music would they like to play? Read More
