My senior year of high school I received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, and I volunteered for City Music, where I helped prepare kids for their college auditions. This is how I developed a love for preparing students specifically for college auditions/music conservatories. Since graduating from Berklee I have begun teaching locally in Chicago, preparing students for auditions at music conservatories, as well as teaching theory, ear training and other skills needed for musicianship at the professional level. I have over 10 years of teaching experience with the last 7 years being full time. I started playing piano when I was 5 so I have over 22 years of playing experience. The number one thing I stress about learning to play the piano (except practice of course!) is that you need to be having fun at all times. Music is supposed to be fun so it’s my job to make sure my students are enjoying each lesson and each time they sit down at their piano. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leanord's Essential Elements. Once the student has a grasp of their instrment and the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire and tecnique exercises. I will try to find out what the student is interested in to help guide my instruction and keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter the age or ability level. Read More

I began teaching when I was in middle school when I got the opportunity to assistant direct theater workshops in my town. I was hooked and for my Girl Scout Gold Award in high school, I ran a theater company for children of social service recipients. In college, I tutored struggling music theory and piano students and felt it was the perfect way to use my enthusiasm for music in a positive way beyond teaching. Read More

I start my students with a single lesson where I gain a knowledge about the student's musical abilities and personality. I don't generally start with a single method book, because I believe that in individual lessons, the methods used should be tailored to fit the student. I will pull from Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, and Standard of Excellence, as well as writing and devising my own warm ups and methods. Read More

I have always been passionate about music and feel no greater joy than sharing this passion with my students and friends. I began playing guitar around 2003 while I was a freshman in high school. Throughout my high school years I have attended summer music camps in Green Bay, WI then at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After graduation I attended McNally Smith College of Music where I majored in Guitar Performance. Read More

I believe that each student has something unique to bring to the table, and that students should feel that they are valued because of their cultural identities, not in spite of them. I also believe that music in itself can be used as a means through which the world can be impacted for good. Bringing students to a positive outlet such as this, can bring about passion within themselves, for both music and other issues in the world, music being the way they express this passion and use it to send a message.
