I have been playing drum set and percussion since 1997 in many different bands, orchestras, and ensembles. Since receiving a B.M. in percussion performance from DePaul University (09), I've played in a wide variety of groups from the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra to hip hop artist Malik Yusefs band. With my original band Polarcode, I played around the US, had songs used by Victorias Secret, the NCAA Basketball Tournament on TNT, and had my music video played on E! Read More

I have an interactive yet focused style of teaching. I can(but don't recommend) to use the Suzuki method. I feel that all aspects related to the instruments weigh much importance in teaching the student. However, with the Suzuki method, the student's primary focus is to learn pieces rapidly and climb the level of difficulty as fast as possible. This prevents him/her to fully understand and analyze the piece and lesson and it can also turn the student away from pursuing the instrument further.  Read More

I've been teaching privately since my college days at Western Michigan University. I've been fortunate enough to study classical ( western european ) and jazz music/percussion with Judy Moonert and Billy Hart. I currently teach at Musician's Institute in Los Angeles, Ca In my time spent with Judy Billy, I learned how to be a working professional in the West Michigan music scene. Because of there help, I was able to gig ( work ) around town and make money while I was in college. Read More

I have been teaching on and off for over 2 decades. In that time I have 3 instructional DVD's, a book published by Mel Bay and hundreds of hours of home instruction to my credit. Believe it or not there is a similarity in directing and writing for TV and entering your home to teach drums to yourself or your children; you are inviting in a point of view. An opinion. A trusted person that can entertain as well as inspire you or your children to be better everyday. Read More

My teaching style is focussed very much on what the student wishes to learn. Having a set guide pf progression is necessary but not when forced upon. My style involves exploring music together, understanding the thought process behind different pieces of music and applying concepts in fun innovative ways. I have also designed many musical games that are fun and help students remember things better. With every student I put together a custom lesson plan that is designed to show yardsticks and milestones for the student in how they are moving forward with their instrument. Read More

For all students I typically teach from Musicians Institute’s curriculum. This curriculum is tailored in a clear and concise form to progress chronologically from the bottom up. The books I use can help to develop performance, reading, and technique etc at levels beginner through advanced. Most kids I try to teach with additional factors to keep lessons entertaining, and for adults I try to give them as much information as possible while catering to where they are trying to get as a drummer as opposed to the overall knowledge a kid needs.
