I motivate my students by being interactive. With children who are new to music, I use my personal method, which is characterized by providing knowledge while playing interactive games, which helps the children grasp music-related issues. With the older students, I try to inspire them by playing duets, accompanying them, and placing emphasis on a variety of repertoire. Some of them might even perform on the stage in the small recitals prepared by myself every year. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

The technique that I've developed over the years is that while guiding the students through the singing process, I keep them focused on findingandconnectingwiththeir voices. Without a sense of "feeling what you're singing, it's difficult at best to connect with an audience. I produce annual showcases to give my students the opportunity to perform. Read More

My teaching style is based on traditional classical approach of Russian Piano teaching method. For younger, beginner level student lessons are structured around different activities and games (for very young students) to learn notes reading and rhythm. For intermediate and more advanced students each lesson starts with a warm up, of scales, arpeggios, etudes or other technical pieces. After that we move onto working on individual pieces of music. Student is explained what needs to be done to achieve desired results for each specific piece, and the homework is written in a notebook for the following lesson. Read More

I usually start with a beginners book for children or adults.  We go through the lessons at their own speed.  As for practicing the scales, I do not introduce them until the students is thoroughly familiar with the keys (the alphabet of the keys.)  For adults I introduce the scales and arpeggios much earlier. I work with the students at their own speed. They like my style of teaching. Lessons with me do not seem like a chore because I am a teacher who does not get upset with the students . Read More

Orff and Kodály are the requirements throughout my college study, which I integrated into my teaching and found it helpful for developing students' sense of music. I am familiar with the major piano teaching system, including Faber, Bastien, Alfred and Baker. I evaluated the student's instinct on the piano at the first lesson to decide which material is good for them. I will encourage them to find the music they want to play, more importantly, I will adjust the music to their level so they can enjoy it more. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone

For beginning students I focus on the fundamentals of playing a saxophone: Setting up your instrument, reading music, breath training, and embouchure. Once the student progresses to a bit higher level, we start with rudimentary songs that allow the student to work on playing full songs. For more musically experienced students new to saxophone, I still start with the same foundational training and set up, but have a more rapid approach to having them play full songs in genre's they enjoy. Instruments: Piano Voice Music Keyboard

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
Understand the interpretation. I mean it is not only to "play" the notes. We have also to know how to do art, how to do music, make the music sound great.

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I really thinK that for begginers, the old John Thompson methods are superb. Also Hal Leonard for adults are, excellent. I also recommend the versions of Bastien. And I also use my own versions of any music and exercises, especially developed for each one of the particularities of my students.

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
No, I am afraid that I am the only musician in my family.... And they, writers, poets, scientifics, are very proud of me!

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I did study a lot as a gifted child. I always have being doing music even when i was studying Psychology in University, so I guess I was born to be a musician.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
Because I needed to do it! to accompany my singers and choristers. I want to say that playing and singing were always simultaneous activities for me. Later I learn to play recorder, percussion, guitar, venezuelan cuatro, harmonica and I am thinking in studying some violin!

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
I love lots of pieces in a lot of styles. I cannot decide for just one.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
Well, I also study Psychology in University (can you believe that?!). I think that it helps me a lot with my students. I like to help people and listen to them so, yes, I would be a Psychologist.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I am privileged to have had the opportunity to perform the most important works of the great composers as well of the blues, jazz and pop. (long story!) In the piano, what I like most is to accompany in the enormous field of what can be called pop music, including jazz, blues, gospel, boleros, etc. Especially accompanying people singing, thank God my students love it, nothing like the real thing, doing music "live". I mean Karaoke and tracks are OK because usually we do not have the opportunity of having at our disposal an orchestra. So the piano accompanies really well.

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
My degrees are related to conducting and specially Choirs, I love Human voice. and also in order to be a good Choral Director you have to play piano and sing with proficiency. Piano is the instrument I played most as a child.

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
it all depends of the time the student has for practicing. You cannot forget the exercises, (scales, etc.), as well as the warming ups for Voice students, and also some the music pieces created to exercise meanwhile you actually do music without sounding like a simple exercise.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
For me my best accomplishment apart of the prizes and award that I have won (and I expect keep winning!) is the love and respect of my students.

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Yes some of them have won prizes in talent shows and concerts. They were very talented. But ALL of them were absolutely determined to be the best on their respective musical fields even not wanting to be professional musicians.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I always loved the piano and singing, which I believe are two complimentary musical Besides my interest in composing since I was very young determined that piano is the king instrument to do musical creations like no other. I was a gifted kid for music and my parents thought that the best will be begin with piano.
