I am motivated to help beginners get started in learning guitar as music is a longtime hobby of mine since the age of 14, and now I'm 23. My mother is a singer with a great voice, and her mother was a vocalist as well who sang opera in Germany. So I inherited that gift, which I had to foster over the years. Anyone could sing as a hobby but I made it a point to sound as close to my favorite artists as possible, through trial and error. Read More

My style is open minded. I first try to know the students' goals and prepare a course of action accordingly. Then I try to know how much the students already knows and how much talent they have. That allows me to determine how fast I may go with them or how much I must drill and develop a particular skill before going on. Sometimes if I assess the student is jammed or stressed I deem it necessary to digress a bit into music history , philosophy and other fields related to music that work as a refreshing background and point of rebound to the skill part of the lesson while increase the scholarly knowledge of the student. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical, gospel, christian, jazz and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. I encourage all my students to learn the basic rudiments of music including music theory, sight-reading and playing ‘by ear’. I recommend Mel Bay’s “Children’s Guitar Method” and Hal Leonard’s “Guitar Method Book 1” for school age children. However, many of my students have decided to concentrate on learning basic theory involving chords and scales to develop ability to play ‘by ear’. When working with voice students I focus on basic theory, breath control, and vocal scales to develop student’s ability to discern musical intervals. Read More

My teaching style is always based around engagement. Letting the student select what he/she wants to learn is paramount to any style of study. I have found that my best teachers played as much as i did during lessons, and not just played but really showed their passion for playing! This is very important to show a student. You only have more and more fun the more you play. Read More

My teaching experience started when I was a musician at the University of Maryland. I was able to work with undergraduate vocal students and had a private studio where I worked with students over the DC/Baltimore area. I continued my teaching at the Doral conservatory of music where I worked with many young singers hoping to get into some of the best private music schools in the Miami area. Read More
