I am a very passionate musician, with a love for passing on the gift of music. I graduated from Shepherd University in 2012 with a BA in Voice Performance. I then went on to complete an MM and GPD in Opera from The Longy School of Music of Bard College. With the beginning students I use Alfred and Bastien piano instructional books. Also, the children simultaneously learn to read notes and understand music notation. In my teaching method the goal is to combine high level of technique with musicality and individual interpretation. The beginners’ lessons are systematized as a successful blend of fun musical games and new academic material, thus learning new is fun and inspiring. For the more advanced, I will start with a few warm-ups, and breath exercises before singing a short song (happy birthday, and/or prepared piece) before determining vocal range and repertoire. For clarinet beginners, I typically start with the "David Hite" methods book, and the "Big and Beautiful" technique outlined in "Squeak Big". I teach them to build a strong sound from open G and never leave a lesson until they can play a recognizable tune as they are learning the beginning concepts of breathing and technique. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for music, and seeing their confidence grow as they progress. Therefore, it is important that each student learns at his or her own pace. There is no need to over-exhaust them with tasks but I do encourage individual growth and development by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I push my students to practice daily for at least an hour and I give specific vocalizations that will help strengthen particular weaknesses in each voice. I'm eclectic when it comes to musical styles for I myself had too many loves. I encourage my students to practice daily and to take care of their instruments. I tell my students that I believe that if you really want to be a singer, musician, and entertainer if you never give up eventually you will achieve your goals. Success is measured by your own happiness, short term and long term goals.
