I believe in meeting students where they are and catering lessons to their specific learning styles. Not everyone learns everything in the exact same way. While I do teach using standard, classical repertoire more often than not, my goal as a teacher is to help my students develop a deep love and passion for music; hence, I often find it incredibly helpful to branch out into other genres! I've taught show tunes, pop, rock, and even video game music to my students. Read More

I started playing violin at the age of 4, and started teaching at 17. In 2003, I started playing viola, and in 2005, I started learning cello. In 2010, I graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Music degree with electives in Psychology. I have played as the Associate Principle Second Violin in the Orange County Symphony since 2011. I love teaching because I love to help people, and I love to share my joy of stringed instruments. I was brought up classically trained on the Suzuki books but I am completely flexible. If you have or have heard of a set of books you like we can use that too. If you don't know how to read music we can focus part of the lesson on music theory and the rest on learning from recordings and playing by ear. Each genre has their own set of rules and depending on how strict those rules are I will be equally strict accordingly. Read More

As I have previously stated, I tailor my lessons to each individual student in order to maximize their learning potential. Yes, I do usually assign one piece that will be good for them to learn even if it is not their favorite song to play, but the rest of the time I make sure that it is music they are going to enjoy. If a student loves Disney songs, then you can bet that's going to be an assignment. Read More

I will always set goals that I know are within reach for my students. I want to create an environment that will help them develop a passion for music in a way in which they are comfortable, not frustrated. In my mind I am always going to put the person first that I am teaching by trying to find out what inspires them. I will then assess and change my style accordingly. Read More
Instruments: Piano Cello Music
For all my cello students, I start with 170 Foundation Studies and a modified Suzuki Method (Cello). Once my students reach Suzuki book 4, then they can start playing Bach Suites, and other intermediate repertoir. The Bach Suites, however, are what most of my cello students are interested in learning. For piano students, I use the Bastien piano series by Neil Kjos. I want my students to be interested and engaged, and coach them through basics while also trying to find pieces or genres they want to play. Read More

As a teacher, it is always rewarding to see students not only improved and made progress but also to see them being focused and enjoy playing music. It's helpful if a teacher can create an inspiring environment that encourages students to try different things and to look for more possibilities of playing music. Students feel more motivated when they can find something interesting in music and they feel more accomplished when they are able to play the music they love. Read More
