Methods are based on instructional books and will vary depending on the student's experience and skill level. Music theory and history are always incorporated into lessons.
I started teaching when I was a 15 and a sophmore in high school. I taught some students in elementary school and also worked in a Montesorri school as a brass coach. I moved to Orange county to go to school at Chapman University and then moved to Los Angeles. Since living in Los Angeles for now 3 years, I have gained 3 students. One who I have had for almost 3 years, one for 2 years and one for almost a year. I like to teach to what the student like to play. My experience is with classical but I have done Operas as well as some musical theater and love to teach in all. If the student in is band at school, I like to help them with their practicing and give them tools to play confindently and have fun! If students are just taking lessons for fun, I like to play what they would like to play as well as add some of my favorite pieces. I am excited to have the opportunity to help another young musician learn to love music!
My teaching experience dates back to college, as I was the Vice President of the collegiate choir, and small group leader for international tours. After that point, I had the privilege of working at the elementary, high school, and collegiate levels teaching voice, piano and acting. I have over ten years of experience as an orchestal conductor and music director for Azusa Pacific University, Cal Baptist University and Life Pacific College. I am a member of EMC, and am privileged to have performed at The Colony, SCLO, Candlelight Pavilion, Disneyland, and many other regional theatrical locations. I encourage a consistent rehearsal schedule, utilization of multiple musical styles, technique, performance accountability and creativity!
I have taught the drums in a variety of settings for 15 years. In Australia I worked for the South Australian Government in the Instrumental Music Service for 3 years. I provided group drum lessons to students ranging from elementary to senior high school age with a total of 40 lessons each week, at 10 different schools to over 100 students! While in this role, I also coordinated ensembles and concert bands and also established a music program at a juvenile detention centre. For two years I was a classroom music/relief teacher at a variety of elementary, junior high and senior high schools in Australia. I have also taught drums privately (usually 15 students per week) since January 2000 from my home studio or from various music schools.
I developed a system of designing courses based on the individual music profile of the student. I assess the students capacities in different areas, I design the course based on this assessment and the goals the student wants to reach. Typically each student receives training on three main areas: Technique, Ear Training and Music Theory. In each area I use ton of resources to have students learn ,absorb and apply key concepts about rhythm, melody, harmony, tone color and form. In each learning milestone students are encouraged to create music or improvise to apply the concepts and receive a critique to evolve their creativity. Students performance is recorded regularly to assess progress.

Music helps develop a well rounded person. As a result of taking lessons, students develop a deeper appreciation of many types of music and the arts in general. Additionally, it has been proven that they also tend to score higher on language, maths, and science tests.
Musika offers a convenient solution for when you want to add music lessons to your busy schedule. Teachers can come to your home on the days you are available, and give you the same great lesson that you would have in a studio! This option allows you to stay in the comfort of your own home and get a great music lesson at the same time. With in home lessons you are able to save time and money that would usually be spent on travel expenses.
Musika offers an annual performance opportunity for all students through our spring recitals in May and June. Recitals are a great chance for young students to perform for the first time, more experienced students to show their skills, and even for adults to show their love of music! Musika students perform most often on piano and guitar, but we also have many singers, violinists, and even drummers - every instrument and style is welcome.
Your trial lesson will be a chance to meet the teacher, ensure student/teacher compatibility, and for the teacher to evaluate the student's current skill level in order to create a custom lesson plan. We have a satisfaction guarantee for all students - if for any reason you are not happy with the teacher after the introductory lesson, you will not be charged and we can match you with a different instructor.

Ed is THE best instructor I've ever had and I've had many instructors over the years in various fields of study. Ed met us at a music store to help choose a guitar, this is after he first called and asked all the right questions. He's supplied my daughter with just the right amount of paper work and just the right amount of new techniques. By this I mean to say that Ed connects with the pace my daughter learns at. I highly recommend Ed AND Musika.

I really like her. And as an adult student, a good teacher who keeps the pace up but still keeps it reasonable in terms of difficulty is really hard to find. She does a great job of explaining little detail things in terms I (as a musically challenged human) can understand. I'm having a blast! 10/10 would recommend!

Laura is a fabulous teacher. She explains concepts to me using concrete examples so that I can understand changes that I need to make to my posture, breathing, phrasing, etc. She makes warm-up exercises fun, and she's got a great sense of humor over all. Her teaching style is collaborative, more egalitarian (she respects what I already know and meets me at my level), tailored to my particular interests and strengths, and I always look forward to our lessons!

Dr. Nedra C is incredible. She knows her craft in and out, it truly shows in her teaching. As well, she cares a great deal about the student, and preps plenty of material outside of the lesson for those that she teaches. I've had many different music teachers and am aware who's talented and cares, and who isn't. Dr. Nedra C is true phenomenal, and any student would be lucky to have her.

Gina is very supportive and encouraging. Even though I get frustrated with my progress, she can tell that I've been practicing and reminds me of how far I've come. She challenges me to learn new skills without giving me a piece that I cannot master (with practice). I'm happy that she is my music teacher and look forward to many more lessons in the future.

Lindsey has been coming to our house to give saxophone lessons to our 12 year old daughter for about a month. She is an absolute joy. She is extremely knowledgeable, flexible with her schedule, and my daughter thinks she is "fun" and "cool". We would highly recommend her to anyone wanting music lessons. A+

Karleen has really turned it around for me. My previous teacher (not from Musika) had me feeling anxious, upset, and incapable...NOT the desired result! Karleen's method is clear, appropriate for my beginning level, and (best of all) actually lets me achieve some progress! I'm actually looking forward to my lessons now!

David is not only a great musician and educator but also a delightful human. We began using David six years ago as a piano teacher for my two boys. Since then my eldest moved on to acoustic and electric guitar and my youngest electric and stand up bass. Somewhere along the way I began to take guitar lessons also (I was David's most bearded student at age 48). David always came prepared to lead but also to follow, he often asked what we were listening to and taught us how to play it. His ability to listen to a piece of music and transcribe it always left me amazed, we have several notebooks full of songs we learned individually or played as a group. After a shoulder injury David continued to impress by teaching me music theory instead of our usual lesson. I could go on forever, David made a positive impact on my family and feel fortunate to have met him.

My son and I both take lessons with Micheal. My son started on the ukulele and recently started the guitar. He is excellent with children. Very patient and very intuitive to the child's ability. He is also an excellent teacher for adults. I had not touched my guitar in several years and in a couple months not only to I remember everything I forgot but I'm learning many new techniques and am a much better player than I've ever been.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
