As a piano teacher and composer, I have always loved teaching and working with children in the area of music and the arts. I graduated from Ithaca College School of Music with a BA in music composition and an instrumental emphasis on string bass and piano. I have been performing throughout grade school, in college and after college. I have been with groups such as the New Patlz Symphony Orchestra and the Saddleback Church Orchestra on string bass, and the Ulster County Concert Band on clarinet. I sang with the Ithaca College Woman's Chorale at Lincoln Center in New York City in 2005.
In addtion to teaching privately in my studio, both 'cello and piano for over 30 years now, I have also taught after school string classes, for all student levels. One unique project that occured was playing for a ribbon cutting ceremony for an adult care center where I featured my students who performed with me and a few of my colleagues. Coaching youth orchestra 'cello sections sometime culminated in my New American Quartet coaching College students then performing a concert for them and their families. I encourage my students to write their own pieces and perform for one another in my "musical get togethers" held in my studio or sometimes in larger venues. I have also organized 'cello ensembles that would often incorporate a singer, similar to what Pablo Casals did, 50 years ago. I tend to make learning more fun than just teaching in a strict manner - it is too much work to learn an instrument so the student might as well enjoy what he/she is doing otherwise, why do it???? I make sure that pieces the student wants to learn are also incorporated into the mix of classical, folk, and popular musical repertoire, in addition to the regimen of exercises and scales.
When I teach I work with every student at their own pace. You get as much information as you can absorb. Every song is polished to the smallest detail, focusing on overcoming all vocal challenges while specifically emphasizing on emotional delivery, stage presence, and microphone technique. With the advanced students, I work on improvisational skills (add-libbing). Being a foreigner myself, the unique value I can add to the vocal sessions is accent elimination for the foreign students - one priceless bonus and a very costly indulgence only professional actors can afford studying and paying for.
I am a very focused and creative piano instructor. I love teaching and inspiring students to be musicians and creators of music. I am also a singer-songwriter, music producer in an EDM duo, so I incorporate songwriting and music theory in my teaching methods. Over the years, I have taken many private music classes through community colleges and online courses and have had internships at music studios. I've performed as an artist at different venues and played weekly for 3,000 high school students at a huge church in Riverside, CA.
For beginning students who are children, I believe it's important to establish solid technique and fundamentals, while remembering to always to keep the experience fun! For students 8+, teaching them to read music early will take advantage of the brain's natural pliability, and make it easier to learn new material going forward. I would plan to ground my instruction in classics such as Ted Reed's Syncopation, Stick Control, by George Lawrence Stone, and Gary Chester's The New Breed. Other, more recent publications such as The Language of Drumming by Benny Greb offer useful tools as well. Instructing adults, I would plan to use these resources as well, while also adjusting or augmenting my methods to fit the particular goals of particular students. For both children and adults, enabling them to play their favorite songs and styles is an overriding goal, and I always encourage students to come to me with songs, fills, or concepts that they are excited to learn. I'm a firm believer in the technological resources now available to drummers, from the Polynome metronome app to the wealth of drumless songs now available on YouTube, and I would hope to use as many of these as possible as part of my instruction method.

Ted S. is teaching clarinet to one of my children, and piano to two others. He is extremely knowledgeable, and very encouraging. His teaching methods are keeping my children enthused about their lessons, and without that, you have nothing. Two of my children were taking piano lesson from another teacher for the past year, and not progressing. Ted has been able to evaluate their skills individually, determine what was missing in their music education, and begin again with some early basics they seem to have missed. I am convinced we are finally moving forward, and am very happy about that. I wish I would have made this change much earlier.

I would like to thank Polina for the series of classical piano lessons I've taken recently. Polina is a fantastic teacher and a high class performer, and I'm really happy I had a chance to meet her! I believe anyone can benefit from the teaching method Polina is practicing regardless of the student proficiency - from beginners to advanced performers. It was a pleasure for me to study classical piano courses under the guidance of such an intelligent & professional teacher! Without doubt, my playing technique has improved a lot and I have signed up for the new classes online already.

My son enjoys his viola lesson each week with Martina. She is disciplined in her approach to teaching but always makes my son's learning experience enjoyable. She knows how to challenge him and develop excellent form. Martina is always punctual and professional. We both highly recommend her as an instructor.

My daughter really enjoys her lessons with Pavel. She is an absolute beginner and Pavel is right with her as she learns the basics. She is completely engaged and always looks forward to her lesson. He packs a lot of learning into their 30 minute time slot - he gets right to it as soon as he walks in the door! He is a great teacher - we highly recommend!

Ali was an amazing voice coach! She taught in a way that made sense to me, and helped me find the voice placements I needed. I didn't know I could sound like that! My development with her was leaps and bounds rather than tiny dreadful steps that happen when you don't know what's going on! Ali was dedicated to helping me work on an audition for a music scholarship and I nailed it all thanks to her, seriously. I can't thank her enough! She helped me with the tools and confidence I needed to sing in the real world alone rather than just back row in a large choir.

She is a very kind and patient teacher, always using positive reenforcement with my daughter, which makes all the difference in the world to children. We definitely are looking forward to continued piano lessons with her. So glad we found her.

Mike has been working with my son Robert for over a year and has just started working with my daughter Kate. Mike is both a great musician and a good teacher. He connects with the kids and keeps them engaged. He is able to tailor the lesson to focus on music that is interesting to each child. He also encourages the students to participate in a public setting which is great. I would highly recommend Mike.

After signing up for lessons with David L. I knew I made the right choice. Just after a couple of weeks I didn't see him as a teacher but as a best friend. There was always a relaxed atmosphere during the lessons. He was very easy to talk to and he really listen to you. If I ever had a question he would answer. He tailors to what ever you want to do in that lesson. David L. is a great teacher and a friend. I totally recommend him for anyone
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
