I'm a film director and writer, a recent graduate in pursuit of a goal. I'm the first student from my undergrad institution (Montana State University) to attend the prestigious American Film Institute Conservatory in over 30 years. Though a writer/director, my first passion in life was music. I've played music since I was 6 years old. It has taken me all over the country through fiddle competitions, festivals, jams, etc. Many of my fondest memories from childhood are centered on those days of traveling to and from festivals in places I had never heard of. Indeed, those long days gone by, playing music well into every night, have formed who I am today.
My teaching experience has been long and diverse. I have been teaching music lessons since I was a college student, but upon graduating, I immediately landed a job at a private elementary school where I taught 2nd and 3rd grades and a music class. Following that, I taught social studies at a George I. Sanchez, a charter middle school based in Houston, TX and then subsequently at Hope Academy Charter School and Lee High School, both being high schools in the Houston area. During my last year, I recieved an opportunity to become a full-time musician, so I returned to giving freelance private lessons as well as working for a music education non-profit organization that serviced low-income children in the Houston area. Teaching has been part of my life for quite some time now and I hope to continue with you!
I love helping my students develop their music talents and skills! At each weekly lesson, students learn new concepts, materials, and songs. Goals are set with the student at these lessons. I make sure each student is excited about and engaged by finding songs that they want to learn.
Our lessons will have three broad areas of focus: Discovering a unique and personal sound through playful vocal exploration. (Influences: David Jones, Joan Sutherland, Monseratt Caballe and Seth Riggs) Developing concrete skills like range and agility with classic singing exercises. (Influences: bel canto, rythmn & blues, and musical theater singing.) Understanding how thinking and physicality play a necessary role in vocalization. (Influences: the Alexander Technique, Neurodynamics, and acting training.) What is it like in my studio? First, there is no nerve-racking 'audition' to prepare, and no one is turned away because he or she isn't 'good enough'. (In fact, I enjoy working with beginners!) When I first meet a student, I don't ever assume that just because he or she has had years of vocal training with other teachers, he or she has actually learned or acquired good technique. (Most of my students have come to me after they have already studied with other teachers, but were disatisfied with the results.) Nor do I assume that a singer with absolutely no formal instruction in singing in his or her background doesn't already have some good fundamental skills to further build upon. Every new student, regardless of skill level or experience, starts with a clean slate when he or she walks through my door. The success I experience as a teacher encompasses the creation of a safe and welcoming classroom environment, positive rapport with students, individualization of instruction, knowledge and application of the new state standards, and practicing multiple modes of instruction. Technique: Solid technique helps my students learn to sing properly, skillfully and healthily. The fundamentals of breath management (e.g., utilization of the correct 'support' muscles, breath pacing, timing breath renewals, regulating the airflow and air pressure, etc.), tone, resonance balancing (configuring the vocal tract in order to achieve optimal resonance and unforced volume), evenness of scale (so that the voice sounds like one consistent voice from the bottom of the range to the top, without register breaks), appropriate and skillful registration events (shifts between registers), smooth legato lines (fluid transitions between notes), range extension, stamina, versatility (the ability to produce a variety of sound qualities and to sing in a variety of styles), agility and flexibility (the ability to move the voice readily, easily and quickly between pitches, intervals, registers, etc., which is particularly helpful for singing embellishments and mellismatic runs), healthy, 'free' voice production and vocal care are essential to being able to sing well, and they are the focus of my teaching I also incorporate performance coaching, acting coaching and audition preparation when appropriate.
I am a local musician and music teacher. I graduated from Long Beach State University in 2015. I studied there with Dr. David Garrett and Mark Uranker. I have a wide range of experience in multiple instruments as well as multiple styles of music. My teaching style focuses on inspiring the student to want to see how well they can do. My philosophy of teaching is that if the student doesn't want to learn, it is my job to get them to want to do so. I am excited to be doing music, because it's been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I look forward to meeting you!

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! I really like her. And as an adult student, a good teacher who keeps the pace up but still keeps it reasonable in terms of difficulty is really hard to find. She does a great job of explaining little detail things in terms I (as a musically challenged human) can understand. I'm having a blast! 10/10 would recommend!

I had always wanted to take vocal lessons, but was very nervous about it until I had the opportunity to have Ali as my instructor. She made me feel very comfortable and helped me realize my strengths while giving me other areas to work on and strengthen. I liked how Ali had me sing out of my "comfort" zone to realize my vocal range. It is obvious that Ali loves music and sharing that love with her students. She is very good at what she does and works well with both male and female voices. I highly recommend Ali and give her solid 5 stars

Our daughter has only been playing the piano since March. Tony replaced our other teacher who had a job transfer and could no longer teach. Tony is fun and encouraging. My daughter is playing Taylor Swift and Christmas songs and is playing the piano more than ever before. Very happy so far with Mr Tony

There are only a handful of people I count in my life who were great teachers, and Laura is one of them. Her musicianship is so secure as are her technique and personality that she zeros in on my weaknesses and devises exercises to strengthen them, and during the lesson it is not "Do this, no, do that" which is unnerving to a novice. She understands the most important part of study is relaxation, so that is easy to achieve with such a confident and compassionate human. Music is her life and she is eager to share her talent with everyone. A rare find, indeed!

Bill has been a great teacher for both my 6 yr. old and my 8 yr. old. He is always on time, keeps them engaged, and gives them just enough of a challenge for the next week. They are both beginners, but I am surprised by how much they already know after just a month or so of lessons. Both kids are practicing willingly and look forward to lesson.
