Spanning a range from Bach to rock, Afro-Cuban to Flamenco, north Indian to Latino, Jon-O has a versatility and depth that comes only from an intense need to understand his craft. He has traveled and toured extensively throughout the Americas, Australasia and Europe, expanding his knowledge, exploring his art and building his multi-cultured repertoire.                                                                          Under the tutelage of Bill Kanengiser and Scott Tenant, members of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Jon-o completed his studies in classical guitar at the University of Southern California in 2000. Since then he has been commissioned to perform for Carlos Santana, has shared a stage with “Maestro” Lázaro Galarraga, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, and Peter Jacobson, to name a few. He considers it an honor to have studied with the late sitar master, Rahul Sariputra.  Jon-O continues to perform with other top musicians while he wraps up production with producer, Angel Figuero.

At the age of six, I began learning classical guitar, though it was not long after memorizing finger-picking etudes when studying Bach and Mozart evoloved into transcribing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Page solos. It wasn't until the sixth grade when I picked up my first saxophone, and that is when my world split open and melted at the hands of jazz. In the tenth and eleventh grade, I performed alongside some of the finest high school musicians in the country in the 2008 Concert Band of America and 2009 Jazz Band of America. During those years, I began, and have not stopped working as a private instuctor for students of all ages and varying skill levels. While studying at Florida State Unviersity, I formed a five-piece funk band called Shoes and Laces which gained success playing shows alongside national touring acts and released a full-length albumn entitled Melodious Junk which sold hundreds of copies across the country. I currently live in Los Angeles, California working as a freelance musician and private instructor.

For my beginning violin studetns, I have a custom set of  books that I use in order to successfully set my students up with a solid foundation for technique and the ability to read notation.  For the intermediate student, we will focus on thoroughly learning msuic in the first three Suzuki method books.  Once the Suzuki method books are completed, we will begin our first sonanta and standard violin concerto.

Technique is a HUGE focus in my studio. Good, proper technique gives you a solid foundation on which to build your musical career. Technique allows you to sing whatever you want in a healthy way that will keep you singing well for the rest of your life. Developing technique involves a variety of activities: sometimes during lessons we box, sometimes we kick, sometimes we jump rope; we are always making you a healthy, better singer. And we’re always having a good time!
