Instruments: Piano

I am from a family of musicians and started my music lessons at a young age. I love playing the piano and have accompanied choirs, vocalists, bands, churches, etc. throughout my life. Other than the priceless enjoyment I have gotten out of being able to play the piano, my greatest pleasure has been teaching young and old how to play, appreciate and enjoy the piano instrument. Seeing the students at the recital, the pride and accomplishment when they showcase what their hard work has accomplished is an absolute great joy! Read More

Instruments: Piano Trombone

For beginner piano students, I start from teaching out of the Piano Adventure Series, and Theory Time books. The Piano Adventure Series is great because the song arrangements have tiered piano proficiency for beginner to intermediate players. After students work in these books, other repertoire can be added to perform for holidays and recitals. For trombone students, I first make sure my students make characteristic sounds and introduce music to meet their playing level. Read More

Instruments: Piano

I have been playing the piano for 10 years, but have been involved in the musical institution for much longer than that. I have been shaping minds young and old in piano technique and music theory for the last seven years. And, I believe I am an ideal teacher for anyone just starting out to those who are trying to continue from where they left off. I have been afforded the pleasure of performing in many of my University's recitals and concerts as a solo pianist and ensemble piece. Read More

Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
Beginner players will use the Premier Performance book by Ed Sueta. This book is used by most band programs and it will help each student with the basic music fundamentals to help them succeed in the process. Intermediate Players will use the Smith-Yoder-Bachman Band Method book. This book allows intermediate players to explore more on their horns and to play around with alternate fingering patterns. Advance Players will play from the Lazarus method book. This book will prepare for recitals and college level experiences.

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
I have had several students make the all west honors band. My students are very aware on how important it is to practice once they leave and go home. They all succeed in the process through following the instructions to improve over time. A good performance and lessons will always lead to success later on in life. Everything pays off in the long-run because teachers work hard to make sure their students are learning everything that is needed to move on to the next level. Some of my students I work with privately are section leaders of their band programs.

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The hardest thing to master on the clarinet is when its time to cross the bridge. This is the time that the student is ready to play in a different octave on their instrument and have to learn how to cross from one octave to the next octave. In order to accomplish this goal, the student have to work hard to make it happen and with the help of the teacher the student will cross the bridge. This technique is a struggle, but with great practice, motivation, and determination it will prosper overtime.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Learning how to play the clarinet was one of the most amazing accomplishments in my life. At times it became very hard and I wanted to give up, but as I continue to face my obstacles I begin to overcome them through my music. I am also proud of being a teacher and being able to teach students how to do the exact same thing I did when I was their age. Traveling from different cities and states being able to do what I love is another accomplishment that makes me smile. Remember things that you have a passion for will always be an accomplishment that will make a person proud.
