Overview:
I am a piano instructor with a love teaching music and inspiring creativity. I teach songwriting and encourage my students to become musicians and creators of music. I am a singer-songwriter, music producer in an EDM duo. I incorporate songwriting and music theory in my teaching methods. Over the years, I have taken many private music classes through community colleges and online courses and have had internships at music studios. I've performed as an artist at different venues and played weekly for 3,000 high school students at a huge church in Riverside, CA.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience starts back at the age of 17 when my private instructor encouraged me to start teaching beginners. I have been teaching for over 12 years now and love sharing the joy and passion of music with others. I started private piano lessons at the age of 6 and started writing songs and teaching myself music production when I was 13. My grandpa turned my dad's garage into a music studio for me when I was 16 and I started teaching piano lessons from my parents home in Riverside soon after. I now teach in the San Fernando Valley.
METHODS USED
I customize lessons for each student because of different levels, goals, and tastes. For children, I usually start with a beginning method book such as Alfreds or Bastien. I introduce the fundamentals and work at the speed of the student, encouraging daily practice. I like to keep my lessons upbeat and fun so I always incorporate pieces that are recognizable to the student. If a student has a favorite tune from an artist, band, or a movie I will find them an arrangement that best suits their level. I feel that incorporating songs they are familiar with helps them advance quicker, gives motivation for practice, and quickly gives them that sense of accomplishment. For adults, I will find their musical goals and guide them to pieces that will help them advance quickly but still be fun and interesting.
LESSON STYLE
Seeing growth in students and seeing them enjoy music is part of my love for teaching. I set realistic goals and incorporate music theory, scales, chords as soon as the student is ready. I also teach composition and music production to those who are interested. I teach music production from a sequencing app that works on Apple and Android. I set up recitals for students where they can perform pieces they've worked or perform their original songs they've written. Tailoring the lesson to the students wants and needs is most important to help inspire and grow musically.
