My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching privet lessons more then 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to empathize for younger students, as it tends to help the students progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original materials, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. For intermediate and advanced students, I like to figure out what kind of popular music (rock, blues, jazz, pop) that they would like to play and learn more about, and then learn repetoire or basic techniques in that particular genre. Again, I specialize mainly in popular styles, and am not much of a classical player. My hope is to give intermediate and advanced classically trained students a good foundation in popular styles, and once the foundation is there, start working on repetoire. Read More

We always had a piano in the house when I was little. I started showing interest in the piano when I was about 3. At 6, my parents enrolled me at the St. Louis Institute of Music, the premier school for being a music student. The school taught students K-12, and had an accredited 4 year college. Most of the teachers in the preparatory school had graduated from the college, and were well respected musicians in the city. Read More

After teaching myself theory at the age of 4, I received my first musical instruction in 6th grade. At that time I learned to play the flute. This is where my musicianship began to blossom and opportunities were sent my way. Thanks to my love and dedication, I was one of a few placed in special bands. Auditioning & being selected for choruses during this time increased as well. As a result of my hard work, I was offered & accepted the positions at section leader and Drum Majorette in my high school's concert and marching bands & after joining choir my junior year I became lead soloist of the choir. Each lesson starts with technical exercises, follwed by repertoire. Each student does theory during the lesson with twenty questions at the end. During this time, I do all review theory material. Difficult passages are marked with a "P" chart. They have to play the difficult part four times and get a "P" for each perfect playing. Every fifth time they have to repeat from the beginning to integrate the difficult part with the rest of the song. Read More

I have been teaching in the St. Louis area since 2001, when I took my first Piano Pedagogy course at Webster University. I also taught for 2 years in the Los Angeles area. I have taught children as young as 5 years old and my oldest student was 88. I encourage regular practice but always attempt to inspire motivation rather than enforce it. I bring standard piano repertoire and classical literature to the table so that students can discover their preferences and have a clear sense of Music History. Read More
