Each year after that, I got a new instrument and taught myself how to play it. I got the John Phillip Sousa award for playing trumpet in my high school orchestras. I love playing music in bands and I am always consistently playing music on a daily basis. I would love to be able to teach others how I taught myself music and I hope that other people can be as good as me and make the world more of a musical place. Read More

Since every student has different goals I like to plan my lessons accordingly. I found it very useful to devide the lesson into 3 parts : Technique, reading and drumset studies. Whether the student is excited about rock, pop, jazz, hiphop or samba, this method creates a solid foundation for the drummer's ultimate goal - to groove on the drumset! To make the lesson even more fun and interactive, I love to work on playing along with recordings which give the student the feel of playing with his favorite band! Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the method book that the child is given by the school Music teacher, making certain that they are at least adequately prepared to play their assigned studies (or pages) for their school Music lesson. I also incorporate playing the Duets provided in that volume, along with the students. I then suggest that they purchase other necessary methods, duets and solos at their local Music Store(s), as they progress, and they will therefore require more advanced Musical materials than that used at their school. Teaching is my passion and calling, i can't think of doing anything else! In 2013 I graduated from Fairfield University with a triple major in English, Gender Studies, and Violin Performance. While studying at University I started my band with my sister, Verdigrls. We have gone on to put out an EP, play all over the NY metropolitan area as well as have our music featured in movies and television. Teaching for the past six years has given me perspective as to what individual students need. Read More

I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests. Students will be encouraged to practice and will be recognized when they have success and accomplishments. Learning about the student also helps me to understand their future goals with music. What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
It is all about committing 1-2 hrs a day to practicing. Consistency is the key to steady progress. It is sometimes difficult to stay focused and or motivated. It's also difficult to find time in your schedule to practice everyday. So if you can find at least and hour or two of free time, you will be able to steadily work on your instrument. You have to factor in the time to also just play your instrument freely for the pure sake of having fun. I also think that staying inspired is a great way to keep up our motivation and interest in our instrument.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If your child is asking about getting an instrument than it's probably time to consider looking into starting lessons. If anyone, especially a child, has interest in music it should always be supported and encouraged. Music helps children with social skills, self esteem, mathematics, problem solving, etc...just to name a few positive benefits. In fact, I'm not sure of any negative aspects of music!
Music is the gift that keeps giving. Even if your child is young he/she can gain so much from a musical experience. Whether that's seeing a concert or meeting with a teacher 1 on 1.
When will I start to see results?
Results are all based on meeting specific goals. I think of progress as a slow and steady method. There will be moments when new ideas are easy to understand and easy to play on the instrument. At other times in our progress the results may seem to take more time.
But, unfortunately, results are really based on the students ability to understand the lesson mentally. Then the student must put in the personal time to practice the lesson at least one hour a day. Which is just a safe guard in case you miss a couple days, which happens, even to professionals like myself.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I wouldn't say it took someone to inspire me to go into music. I knew at a young age that I wanted to pursue music. Although I can say I did have a lot of positive people who supported me. My parents were especially encouraging when it came to music. I heard a lot a sad stories of kids hoping to study an instrument but their parents refused to allow them to pursue anything related to music or the arts.
I did have a couple teachers in Middle School and High School who actually wrote special permission slips for us to leave lunch/recess or study hall to play music together in the auditorium.
