I have been teaching private lessons since 2015, my freshman year in college. During that time, I have had students from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and levels of proficiency. My first teaching influence was my mom, who was a high school orchestra director and continues to teach strings to elementary school students part-time today. I have also been blessed to study with some truly amazing private instructors at IU's tremendous music school, namely Luke Gillespie (jazz piano), Fred Hammond (classical piano), Walter Smith III (improvisation), Steve Houghton (improvisation), and more. I use the Faber & Faber or Alfred teaching methods with students who are beginners. These methods teach note reading skills, music theory, aural and ear training skills, sight reading, and transposition. If you are a transfer student and have worked with a previous instructor, I'm happy to use the method books you're familiar with. For intermediate and advanced players, the focus is on technique and piano repertoire. I expect all of my students to practice regularly and will help you strategize the best way to incorporate successful practice methods into your training. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For beginning voice students I usually start with breathing techniques, which I believe are the basis of good vocal technique, then vocal warm-ups, and singing repertoire. I am very flexible in following the interests and goals of the student, which are always my guide in lesson planning. For beginning piano students, I usually use the books, Hanon, Piano Adventures, Burgmüller and Czerny depends on their interests and the levels. Read More

I strongly believe that learning is an extremely personal endeavor. I am very sensitive to each student's style of learning. I like to get to know what inspires each student and help them fuel their own inspiration. I really think the learning should come from them. Sometimes I see myself as a facilitator, helping ushering in the calling that is already within. I am very good at helping the student set realistic goals. Read More

When I teach, I tend to forget the time. I always walk an extra mile, vocal lessons especially. I want my students to learn the basic techniques on how to use their vocal chords, where to place their voices, how to memorize, how to hold the mic, how to emcee, how to phrase, express, improvise which really needs time in learning. But after that, students will be more inspired, motivated, more eager to learn and challenge themselves to be better singers or performers. Read More

I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, or draft up my own exercises. I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs. I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique. I also teach songs that the student would like to learn. I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning.
