I've found that being flexible and adaptible is most important to me, as everyone learns in a different way. I place a lot of importance on following student interest and goals as well, since it doesn't matter how great your instruction is if you're bored and don't want to keep playing. I think every student should get as much out of their lesson experience as they want, whether that means a more casual experience where you're not practicing too much throughout the week, or holding my student more accountable if they express more ambitious goals. I have been teaching on and off for over 2 decades. In that time I have 3 instructional DVD's, a book published by Mel Bay and hundreds of hours of home instruction to my credit. Believe it or not there is a similarity in directing and writing for TV and entering your home to teach drums to yourself or your children; you are inviting in a point of view. An opinion. A trusted person that can entertain as well as inspire you or your children to be better everyday. Read More

I believe that motivation begins with excitement and there is no better way to help a student stick to a practice routine than teaching him or her to play their favorite songs. Of course, a knowledge of music theory is very important, but I always make sure that we don't get bogged down in minutia, and that each student is allowed to proceed at his or her own pace. A practical and usable knowledge of music's fundamentals is employed to get results and keep the student motivated and actively learning. Read More

If students come in with just an initial curiosity or are unsure about their direction, we try various songs and learning methods to see what they feel most comfortable with, what's most fun for them. I also love to ask the student questions and emphasize open communication to make sure they're an active participant in the learning process. This includes weekly lesson notes and consistent communication with any loved ones. Read More

I Try to get away from mechanism without joy. Everything has to be close to the music. Exercises to be actually doing them with a rhythm and time. Other than doing things musically, practicing in different times and intentions help a lot for the student to be open to play songs in different ways. Technique and theory are necessary tools. To apply concepts musically they need to do it with musical taste. Read More

For the begginer I like to start by exploring and accessing their ability to do anything musical in the drumset while showing them some very basic and familiar drum beats. Shortly after I introduce them to the foundations and building blocks of drum playing through visual, auditive cues as well as introducing music theory knowledge. Music reading is one of the most important skill to learn as you progress. Drum Books will be used for the classes For intermediate and Advance , I also make an accessment to find out where they are in terms of drum technique, drum culture, all the music styles that they are familiar as well as unfamiliar with. I have an interactive yet focused style of teaching. I can(but don't recommend) to use the Suzuki method. I feel that all aspects related to the instruments weigh much importance in teaching the student. However, with the Suzuki method, the student's primary focus is to learn pieces rapidly and climb the level of difficulty as fast as possible. This prevents him/her to fully understand and analyze the piece and lesson and it can also turn the student away from pursuing the instrument further. Read More
