I started drum lessons when I was 12. I started playing in hotels at 15 years of age with show bands and rock bands. I have played with high school bands at Carnegie Hall in New York and traveled to many places because of music. When I went off to graduate school my long time band mate went on the road as a professional musician. But I never stopped playing. I first like to establish a strong internal clock in a new student. I think it is important to understand the feeling of each beat. To learn proper coordination I like to use the book "Syncopation" to practice playing rhythms with multiple limbs as well as learning how to read music. My teaching experience has always been for the student learning at least ONE new thing from during my lessons. I began teaching non officially to other drummers at various gigs across L.A. that liked what they saw during my performances. Because of this I met a lot of amazing individuals who are going to do great things. I realized that after a few years, I wanted to officially start teaching others because of the joy it gave me to see the light bulb turn on in someones head who felt as if they couldn't get it right. At the age of nine I began my interest in drums in particular. My father was a great pianist, choir director, teacher, vocal instructor, and all around musician. So growing up in this atmosphere has helped me through the years. I have been officially a drummer since I turned ten, and have continued to play in church, bands ( including my own) and for different events of different styles. I am a professional musician with 15 years of experience, performing at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China, Studio 54 and all around the world. As an educator, I've taught K-12 for the last seven years, focusing on modern band instruments like guitar, bass, drums and keyboard.
