My methods depends on the skill level and interest of the student. Fundamentals are key, but I always try to incorporate them with music that the student is interested in learning. I believe that music should never be boring, and practicing should never be a chore! I also believe that musicians of all skill levels can and should improvise, as it is a fundamental form of creative expression that is often overlooked by classically trained musicians. Read More

I like to first get a feel for the students abilities and asses how to teach them by breaking things down to their bare essentials before suggesting a good book to go through and the right exercises. I find that most young students or beginners need to see some form of result to stay engaged so I try and get them moving with sticks on a pad or even learning a basic drum beat within the first two lessons. When teaching I always discuss the interest the student has first. I can adjust to any method of teaching. Once we establish their goals, I make suggestions of various ideologies. I prefer to create the lessons weekly, and use the idea of theory, harmony, melody and rhythm as a building block in order to enable a student to move at their own pace. I start a student from the point where they are in terms of theory. Read More

I've taught privately for over 30 years and have been teaching from my home studio in South Pasadena since 1994. Everyone who studies with me deserves as thorough a musical education as I can give them. I discuss both short and long term objectives with all new students (or their parents) before the first lesson. While its important for the teacher not the student to establish the course of study, I believe that sticking to a rigid ideology is a mistake. Read More

Prior to making the transition to a full time musician, I was a swim and surf instructor for children and adults! This experience greatly prepared me for teaching music. I learned a lot about patience, communication, and having fun which is what I've been incorporating into my 3 years of teaching drums and percussion. I also have experience with different age groups, cultural backgrounds, and children with disabilities. I've taught children age 5 up to 17, I have basic conversational French and Spanish speaking skills, and I have experience with children with Autism, Aspergers, Down Syndrome and ADHD. Read More

I am a passionate musician and actor and I want to share my joy of the arts with the world through performance, education, and collaboration. I am originally from Denver, CO where my music journey began. At the age of 5, I began taking piano lessons. A few years later, I began to branch out into drums, inspired by my dad who is also a drummer. This led to many ensemble settings for two decades, including jazz band, symphonic percussion, marching percussion, and rock bands. Read More
