I make them set reasonable goals in the moment till they feel like they can walk away having something new under their belt. With every skill comes discipline, devotion, and passion. I'll show my student the roots of drumming as well establish the influences that influenced our favorite musicians. I go over rudiments and applying them to the drum kit for all genres of music and grooves, stick control, technique, coordination/independence, drum fills, reading music and I also encourage my student play along with a tune of there choice or mine to get a feel for popular rhythms and tempos. I really work hard to customize the lessons to each student, discussing with them (or their parent) what their goals are.  For beginning students who are children, I use a few great books, some of which I even learned out of when I took my first lessons at age 6. For older students, I try to be open to any material they're intrested in.  If a student  is set on learning to play Beach Boys songs, we don't spend so much time on the classic technique and rudiments BUT over the last 15 years I've developed a system of incorporating fundamentals into practical application that gets my students playing real songs right away while improving technique. My love for music started when I was 13 and I started playing drums. I soon got in a band and was enlisted by default as the bass player. I fell in love with the instrument and dedicated my life to becoming a professional musician. When I was 18 I moved to Boston to pursue a degree at Berklee College of Music where I graduated in 2017.
