From there, I go onto introducing learning note values, and drum music reading. For adults, I may start the same way, but also discuss what they would like to focus on. During my time as an undergrad student I taught percussion and basic piano lessons in the local area. Since leaving school in 2014 I have continued my music education and focused on teaching young children both group and individual. I first started teaching friends kids and it grew from there and more people asked for lessons and I made more time for it and really feel in love with teaching. Prior to making the transition to a full time musician, I was a swim and surf instructor for children and adults! This experience greatly prepared me for teaching music. I learned a lot about patience, communication, and having fun which is what I've been incorporating into my 3 years of teaching drums and percussion. I also have experience with different age groups, cultural backgrounds, and children with disabilities. I am a percussionist from Ecuador. I have broad and deep training in world and latin percussion, classical and contemporary music performance, and composition. In 2011 I moved to Brasil to complete my undergrad, and in 2015 I graduated from UNESP (Sao Paulo State University) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance. Later in 2017, I moved to Los Angeles to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree in World Percussion from the California Institute of the Arts, where I had the opportunity to study with renowned musicians.
