After that I like to go back and give written out exercises and notes on what we did in the song. The books I use can help to develop performance, reading, and technique etc at levels beginner through advanced. Most kids I try to teach with additional factors to keep lessons entertaining, and for adults I try to give them as much information as possible while catering to where they are trying to get as a drummer as opposed to the overall knowledge a kid needs. As required by music education minors, we had to participate in finding an accredited school system and observe for one year and assist for one year. I began teaching 19 years ago and as one drum student grew to two, then to the occasional piano and guitar student, I eventually was teaching 35 students weekly.  I've been lucky in that I have taught such a wide variety of ages and skills.  I've taught actors to drum for roles, writers the lingo of the jobbing musician, and family bands pop songs for the school talent show.   I've always been open to scheduling whatever is easiest for the student, and I'm happy to do in-home lessons but since I began teaching the technology has advanced substantially.
