I teach combination of the Suzuki method and the Hungarian style (stressing the natural, comfortable, painless, tension free method). For young students, the Suzuki method is great, since the repertoire is all fun! Also the CD that comes with every level is vital! Children enjoy and benefit from that. I am an audiophile, so I can set up students with a quality hifi system on the cheap - this is so vital in Suzuki method, as he stated in his book, Nurtured With Love. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was a student at the Los Angeles High School for the Arts. While pursuing my own education I also had five private drum students ranging from the ages of 7-15. I am fortunate enough to have learned a great deal about teaching all different ages from my father, who has been a private guitar teacher for over 35 years. During my time at Berklee College of Music, I taught group clinics and while our tour with the Karen Lovely Band I mentored mentally handicapped music students in the Netherlands with a group called United By Music. I started drum lessons when I was 12. I started playing in hotels at 15 years of age with show bands and rock bands. I have played with high school bands at Carnegie Hall in New York and traveled to many places because of music. When I went off to graduate school my long time band mate went on the road as a professional musician. But I never stopped playing. I have played in Concert Band, Rock bands, Jazz Bands and more.I was always to go to drummer when someone needed a great drummer. Read More

For new students that are beginners, I find out what music they like and what made them gravitate towards the drums. This knowledge is vital, for it is the opening for what I can do to get the student to develop a true attachment and love for playing drums. I have seen many young musicians get overwhelmed and grow a detest for starting music lessons with an instructor that gives the student a formula for playing drums that is the opposite of what they actually desire to play. Nothing is more rewarding than sharing my passion for music with my students. I love to watch them grow and I am always conscious of setting realistic goals for each student every lesson. I make sure the homework is clear and attainable by the student. I want each student to feel good about their progress and to fuel their passions for drums. By acknowledging accomplishments students become more eager to learn more, and therefor progress at a much faster pace. Read More

I create custom lesson plans for all my students, integrating their interests, strengths and weaknesses into a cohesive, dynamic education schedule. I incorporate a variety of different lesson books to ensure musical reading while encouraging consistent exercises in using our musical ear. I use modern music to inspire students to learn the songs they like. I also promote songwriting and other creative outlets to inspire students to find their own musical voice. Read More

The student and I will begin to develop a relationship right away. Trust and communication are key. We'll see where the student stands in his or her current playing. They will usually play for a minute or so and talk out loud about their feelings on their playing. This will include thoughts like where he or she starts to get bored, gets stuck, wants to explore more, has trouble, etc. Read More
