He learned even more about Indian culture and music while abroad in India for 6 months in the fall/winter of 2006/2007, researching for his dissertation. For beginning students, I typically start with some exercises for the left hand and right hand, easy arpegios, scales, melodies and chords. Once the student progresses to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For advanced students, I start with intermediate and advanced studies and pieces like 12 Studies of Fernando Sor, studies of Leo Brower, 12 studies of Villa Lobos or some famous spanish reprertoire for guitar such as Rodrigo, Turina, and Torroba. My first love is drums, but playing piano gave me a different kind of joy. Learning drums at 11 and piano at 15, studying Music Composition at Cal Poly Pomona, I found I had different experiences with each instrument. I was the drummer for the band Euforia and enjoyed the performance aspect of playing this instrument. I've been playing the clarinet for over 20 plus years from middle school through college. I've performed in various concert bands, jazz bands, pep bands and chamber groups while in school. In addition to the clarinet, I can also play the saxophone as well. Groups that I played for includes the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band. I studied the clarinet at El Camino College and was a student of James E. Mack prinicple clarinetist from the Carson Dominguez Hills Symphony and also Studied Clarinet at California State University Long Beach under woodwind specialist Joe Stone from the Long Beach Symphony.
