As a student myself of language and accents for the theater, I have an excellent ear and provide diction coaching far beyond the typical set of languages. As a former ESL teacher and tutor in Spain, I also help ESL singers with English. I read and teach IPA (international phonetic alphabet). For beginning students and children, I typically start with the basic essential fundamentals of playing the trumpet. Once the student has progressed, I will introduce more appropriate material to advance the student with. For adults and more experienced students I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and especially fun, no matter their ability level. Generally, for my beginning students, I assign a regiment of short pieces and technical etudes from a variety of method books. I find this to be an effective way to build technique while also cultivating musicality.
