General teaching philosophy: I help my students build good fundamentals.  I customize lessons to define and reach realistic goals and address students’ school band needs or other musical activities.  I respect students’ other interests and pursuits.  I am an experienced professional musician well versed in woodwinds and a variety of styles.  I can offer students a broad spectrum of musical knowledge. I can teach all levels from a young beginner to an adult professional.  I can offer individual or group instruction.   I play and teach all types of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, and recorders.  I play and teach baroque flute and Electric Wind Instrument (EWI) to cover double reeds or any other sound you might need. I use high quality Yamaha and Roland synthesizers for my patches.

I ask all of my students to be prepared for their lessons with a notebook and pencil for lesson notes and assignments.  I ask them to bring any materials they have and will often recommend books and supplemental material I have had success with.  I believe in writing down notes that help students understand what they are learning, exactly what students should practice, and setting goals for their practice and overall progress.  I have judged solo contests and have rarely had a private student achieve less than a 1st Place rating.  Most of my private students achieve "Superior" rating at solo and ensemble contests.  Good communication and genuine concern for the students needs, desires and goals will always be my focus.

I'm a vibrant and motivated teacher who loves working with students of all ages and most importantly, sharing my passion for music with those around me. In May of 2014, I graduated from Manhattan School of Music with a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Performance. I also received my Bachelor of Music degree in 2008 from Manhattan School of Music. I have had the amazing opportunity to perform at both Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York and at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In addition to touring globally, I have performed with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and the Boulder Philharmonic.

I like to understand a student on a musical level, thus letting their ability level and their drive push me in the direction most useful for the student's success. I encourage them by setting specified goals and show them how to attain them while guiding them through any necessary musical concepts they may meet along the way. I gain from my students' accomplishments a sense of pride, which makes me work just as hard for my students as they do for me. I love finding ways to inspire a student to want to learn and achieve more in their area of music. Nothing is more rewarding for me than seeing my students take on something challenging and learn it with a fervor to learn and take on more musical challenges.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
