The most important aspect, in my eyes, for developing as a drummer, is having an authentic and convincing 'feel.' To achieve this, one must have strong fundmental skills as regards technique, co-ordination, and time. My methodological approach therefore focusess strongly on technical development, musicality, in addition to numerous genre oriented developmental methods aimed to develop the drummer in areas of rock, jazz, latin, odd meter, etc. I also encourage artistic appreciation of the drummers and musicians/groups that have paved the historical trajectory from roots to modern, with regard to particular genres. My teaching experience goes back to my early/mid-teens, when I used to secretly be asked to sub for my drum teacher at the music school I was attending. I had his students, all older than me! We had such a great time and I am very lucky to have had such great teachers myself. All along my professional career, I have always had private students from time to time. Read More

Regarding the actual playing, I emphasize playing slow and steady while keeping the flow of the music, even when it may be tempting to play an easier phrase faster while stopping to play a harder one. I find that progress is fastest playing with that patience in mind, getting a great feel for the music. Also, it's essential to come up with a unique practice plan for the student, accommodating their weekly schedule to find a consistent amount of practice time at their own pace. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to high school when I began teaching privately. One of my main focuses is the idea of making music. Not just playing drums and making noise, but making beautiful music. Drums is one of the most versatile instruments and I think its very important to explore and learn about its history in terms of all genres. There is so much to learn from exploring new genres we may not typically be attracted to, and I emphasize that to my students as I truly believe being a well-rounded musician is one of the most important skills we can have. My aim is to motivate, inspire, challenge and empower you to become the best version of yourself. I firmly believe that the best way to get the best out of the lessons is to communicate and be open to listening to what each other have to say. More importantly, I feel its the responsibility of the instructor to listen to the student, their goals, needs, dreams and help them get there through whichever method necessary. Read More

I first like to establish a strong internal clock in a new student. I think it is important to understand the feeling of each beat. To learn proper coordination I like to use the book "Syncopation" to practice playing rhythms with multiple limbs as well as learning how to read music. I think it is important to balance this technical work with passion. Figuring out popular songs that the student is into is crucial for them to continue to be interested in the instrument! Read More
