I truly believe that all learning, while serious in nature, should be fun and exciting in methodology. Living in the age of technology, there are so many ways to make learning fun and interesting for students. Whether it be sharing information from Youtube, educational sites such as The Teaching Channel, using digital music apps such as "Smart Music" for assessment, showing a student how to record themselves on their smartphones, all of these things can be brought in to the instructional experience. My teaching experience goes back to 1986 when I was still living in Brazil, I was teaching private drum classes for a limited number of students because of my tight schedule as a performer. It was in Los Angeles, California in 1995 that I started being much more focused and excited about teaching music and drums, when I was given the opportunity to join the LAUSD system as a Music/Drum instructor. Its a great jumping off point to work on finger placement, rhythm and picking; all the while we get to learn a song, too! My intermediate students have focus heavily on musicianship. With these types of students I often play (or jam) with them during lessons. This gives them the chance to start really listening and to use their skills to function as a musician. I find students who miss out on this can often play lots of songs but sometimes are missing solid rhythm and finger placement work. Read More

There's nothing better than seeing the face of a student light up when they've learned something I've showed them that they weren't able to play before. Music is my life, I've been playing drums for as long as I can remember - it all started on pots and pans. I'm very passionate about music and take it very seriously but I do like to have fun along the way. My father plays drums as well, that is what inspired and motivated me to play. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was a student at the Los Angeles High School for the Arts. While pursuing my own education I also had five private drum students ranging from the ages of 7-15. I am fortunate enough to have learned a great deal about teaching all different ages from my father, who has been a private guitar teacher for over 35 years. During my time at Berklee College of Music, I taught group clinics and while our tour with the Karen Lovely Band I mentored mentally handicapped music students in the Netherlands with a group called United By Music. I really feel it's important to contribute in the efforts of raising a smarter generation of children, and also understand adult's needs and passions to pursue the art of music. I find so much joy and excitement in witnessing a student's progression, or that moment when theyve been struggling with a rhythm or assignment, and it finally "clicks", and you witness it come together right in front of you. I love that! Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
