Hello, I am a passionate and dedicated musician teacher with both a bachelors and masters degree from California Institute of the Arts. I am a composer and multi-instrumentalist and I am dedicated to teaching and helping my students succeed. Every student is different so I make a point to craft every lesson to the individual and help them obtain whatever it is they want to get out of music, whether it be to just learn a simple song they like, or to help guide and mentor them on their path to making music a career. I like my students to tell me what they would like to get from taking lessons. I then integrate what they want to learn with what I think they should learn. While learning a song or piece of music, I teach the student pertinent music concepts and saxophone technique. I find giving students scales and exercises to learn without context is often discouraging for them because they are not sure why and how they apply in other music situations. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to college, as I was the Vice President of the collegiate choir, and small group leader for international tours. After that point, I had the privilege of working at the elementary, high school, and collegiate levels teaching voice, piano and acting. I have over ten years of experience as an orchestal conductor and music director for Azusa Pacific University, Cal Baptist University and Life Pacific College. Read More

For small children, I like to teach from the same book I first learned how to play guitar from. But, for older students, I like to base our lessons on their interests. Generally, I will ask a student if there is a song they really like. If so, we will learn the song by ear, or by sheet music for those interested, and break down all of its pieces. Then, once we understand the inner workings of the music, we will apply it to different situations. Read More

For the majority of students, I have several books that I use to zero in on what level of proficiency they currently hold and then I begin to adapt from there. For beginning or younger students, I use several books that focus of basic techniques that are effective for any style of music; I use books such as Collin Bailey's Bass Drum Techniques and Mitchell Peters and Stick Control for snare drum and genral techniques. I believe each indivdual deserves a teaching method that is as unique as their person. No two people are alike and as such no two individuals should be taught in the same manner. I take the student's musical interest and develop that interest into lesson plans that are both challenging and fun! There is so much music in the world to be explored and this music can be explored at any level! Read More

I teach students to learn exercises that will ecourage them to focus on correct posture, breathing techniques, andvocal development.
