I am a Suzuki cello teacher registered through Book 1 and Every Child Can! I accept students 5 and above. I am an experienced teacher of beginning, intermediate, and advanced students of all ages. With 15 years of experience and a passion for helping students find the joy of cello playing, I focus on creating a foundation of solid playing technique as well as helping students to experience the creative side of music making. I am thrilled to be a teacher with Musika and look forward to working with you!
Kaia began her musical studies at the age of 6, starting on piano and switching to cello at age 9. She first studied with Nancy Critelli, and in high school with Montana State University cello professor Ilse Mari Lee. During this time, she had the opportunity to perform for Bay Area cellist, Irene Sharp. Living in Seattle since 2002, she has been able to learn from teachers such as Rajan Krishnaswami of the Seattle Symphony and Slovakian cello maestro, Jozef Luptak. Kaia has played with the Seattle Rock Orchestra and has performed and recorded with many Seattle bands. She is currently teaching with Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra’s outreach program and plays regularly with George Shangrow’s Orchestra Seattle, the Rain City Quartet, and the Seattle Celloship.
My teaching experience varies for each of the instruments I instruct. I began teaching private lessons for guitar in 2004. My voice instruction began in 2009, and the rest of the listed instruments I began to teach in 2012. I believe consistent daily practice is essential for improvement in my students, and encourage my students to log their practice time. In the words of my professor Todd Woodbury, "You do not become a master from what you do within these lessons. You become great by how much effort you put into the application of my guidance through your own practice." I cannot make you the performer you want to be. I can only guide you through the process. This is why I am always excited to bring on a new student. Each student I have worked with holds a special place with me. I strive for those key moments when my student comes to a new musical understanding.
I use a variety of readers and workbooks, depending on the instrument. I believe in creating a curriculm that students will enjoy and want to play. I usually includes technical students, excerpts and music relevent to the students.
I am a lifelong educator of music and learning, in general. I think that music is taught best in a well-rounded curriculum that offers students experience in learning technique and solos. I encourage listening to various styles of music and a variety of artists. I am motivated to provide my students with the best experience geared to their level that will allow them to progress and learn while enjoying the process. I received numerous scholarships in college, and sat first chair in ensemble playing as well as many solo performances. I studied at the International Music Camp on the border between Canada and the US and Julliard Summer Music School in Upstate New York.

Most beginners start out with a cello rental, which includes the cello, bow, and case. A high-quality rental will usually cost around $20 to $40 a month. If you are considering buying a cello, student instruments begin at around $500. The instructors in our network can provide recommendations and insight to help you choose the right instrument for your needs. When buying or renting a cello for a young child, make sure they are present to ensure the instrument purchased is the correct size for their height and age.
All skill levels and ages are welcomed by Musika. It is never to late to start learning, and the teachers in our network work with adult students of all ages and abilities. Whether you are an advanced student who wants to further their studies, or a complete beginner who is ready to dive into an instrument, adult lessons can be an extremely fun and fulfilling experience.
No particular style of teaching is taught by the teacher. Students and teachers are all different and will make more progress when the lesson is set up to fit to their particular needs. Many teachers will work with the student based on their own goals while teaching them the technicalities of how to play the instrument as well as read music. If there is a particular method of teaching a student is interested in studying, Musika is more than happy to match to a teacher in our network that specializes in their desired style.
In-home lessons are the most popular choice with Musika students. It allows both beginning and advance students to study their instrument even with very busy schedules. You will not spend time or money on traveling and will have the same quality of lessons with our qualified instructors. Children and adults both love the idea of in-home lessons as it allows learning to occur in the comforts of home.
Because of the cello's large size, our recommended starting age is seven or eight, although exceptions can certainly be made for a younger student who is capable of handling the instrument properly and who has sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. The cello is also an excellent instrument for older students who have some experience with other members of the string family, or even as a beginning instrument.

My daughter really enjoys her lessons with Pavel. She is an absolute beginner and Pavel is right with her as she learns the basics. She is completely engaged and always looks forward to her lesson. He packs a lot of learning into their 30 minute time slot - he gets right to it as soon as he walks in the door! He is a great teacher - we highly recommend!

“Lynn has taught my daughter guitar for 9 years. She has always managed to keep her engaged and provide an exceptional learning experience. She tailors the lesson specifically to the student’s interests and abilities. She provides many opportunities for students to showcase their talents outside of lessons. We love working with Lynn.” Maureen Young, Dir. of Finance, Aug 2015

My son and I both take lessons with Micheal. My son started on the ukulele and recently started the guitar. He is excellent with children. Very patient and very intuitive to the child's ability. He is also an excellent teacher for adults. I had not touched my guitar in several years and in a couple months not only to I remember everything I forgot but I'm learning many new techniques and am a much better player than I've ever been.

Melissa is very encouraging, positive, supportive and patient. She knows how to explain the technical details of flute and music notation to kids in a way that makes sense to them. She has been reliable so far turning up on time and calling if there is a need to reschedule. I would definitely recommend her to others.

Usually I don't write reviews. I am compelled to write for Feng. I've experience finding/working with many music teachers over the years for different instruments (piano, flute, sax) for kids. I think Feng is the best, he is so passionate about music, he encourages the kids. He teaches thoroughly - you can tell he knows lot about saxophone. I would definitely recommend Feng!!

I started taking voice lessons from Ali when I was 19 and a sophomore in college. Though I was hesitant to be starting "late", I felt very comfortable with Ali and her teaching style. We identified several key issues that really made a difference and improved my voice technique. It was fun to sing popular, beautiful songs in our recital! If only I lived in Los Angeles, I would still be a student. Highly recommended!

I've always said, "It's all about the teacher." That skillful, effective teacher who can reach that child and ignite her passion, is truly a gift. Ric does that for my daughter. As a former music teacher myself, the most challenging thing in working with children is how to build their fundamental musical skills while letting them have fun and be expressive. The teacher must create a safe, supportive environment, and Ric does that. Ric immediately focuses on fundamentals of tone and technique, giving my daughter succinct instruction on how to improve, thus she can sense the improvement immediately. Ric seems extremely easy going; even when lighting a fire under her sometimes under-achieving butt, Ric never criticizes, judges or blames. He works with my child, understanding her, helping her problem solve, and even giving her the quick answer sometimes so she can move quickly and stay motivated. Ric balances fundamentals with fun and expressiveness, so my child feels as though she can 'play' and they truly make music in every lesson. I am thankful we found a good match with Ric.

I feel she is a very professional teacher and I have already recommended your company and her to my friends who have children that play musical instruments. My 8 year old son has never been so enthusiastic to play his violin. His skills have improved almost exponentially since we have began lessons with Lauren. Your company has exceeded my expectations and I am very happy to have found it online.

My daughter began learning sax in her school band, but she didn't begin PLAYING sax until she started lessons with Debra. From scales and exercises to actual pieces, Debra coached my daughter with real insight, sensitivity, and patience. Her knowledge of the instrument and feeling for music - along with her easy-going,"kid friendly" personality - make Debra the ideal teacher and musical mentor.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
