I am an experienced teacher of beginning, intermediate, and advanced students of all ages. With 15 years of experience and a passion for helping students find the joy of cello playing, I focuse on creating a foundation of solid playing technique as well as helping students to experience the creative side of music making. I am thrilled to be a teacher with Musika and look forward to working with you!
I often use Suzuki books. My style is a mixture of Suzuki method and those of my own teachers. I draw from a diverse pedagogy, choosing according to what best fits the indivdual student's needs, what I believe will be the most effective way to communicate and have the student retain a concept, and what I feel most comfortable teaching from my own musical training.
My teaching experience varies for each of the instruments I instruct. I began teaching private lessons for guitar in 2004. My voice instruction began in 2009, and the rest of the listed instruments I began to teach in 2012. I believe consistent daily practice is essential for improvement in my students, and encourage my students to log their practice time. In the words of my professor Todd Woodbury, "You do not become a master from what you do within these lessons. You become great by how much effort you put into the application of my guidance through your own practice." I cannot make you the performer you want to be. I can only guide you through the process. This is why I am always excited to bring on a new student. Each student I have worked with holds a special place with me. I strive for those key moments when my student comes to a new musical understanding.
My teaching experience is rooted in the public school systems where I beleive great music programs are so badly needed. I worked for Beyond the Bell, the afteschool branch of the Los Angeles School District coordinating music programs and events for our studnets, grades 3 - 12. This includes honor groups, workshops, clinics, festivals, competitons and ongoning begining music programs, all in various genres and throughout the district. I personally taught two afteschool programs, each with over 25 students each. Classes includes beginning and intermediate groups on wind, string, and percussion instruments.
My musician experiences began early on the piano, then the violin and flute were added shortly after that. I began teaching/coaching in high school, and continued on teaching privately while majoring in music in college. I received numerous scholarships for my playing. My students continue to play today. I am always thoughtful and positive about my teacher to student comments, giving encouragement as much as possible. I am a lifelong learner, and music is an excellent way to promote this interest.

Young cello students will learn all aspects of how to play their instrument. They will be taught proper technique, and how to read music, all while working at their own individual pace. The cello is a large instrument, but comes in different sizes. The teachers in our network will be able to advise you on what size is best for the student. Our recommended age for beginning the cello is around 7 or 8.
Musika works with students of all ages. We teach adults at any skill level, whether it be beginner or advanced. The teachers in our network will make a specific lesson plan to help adult students progress in their studies, and aid them in any specific goals they have. While many people think of children when beginning music lessons, our adult students have had great success in increasing their musical abilities!
While advanced students may choose to buy a cello, beginner students will need to decide whether they would like to purchase or rent. Most all musical instrument stores will have a rental program where students can pay monthly for their instruments. Rentals for beginners offer many benefits. For children, they will be able to easily move up in size as they grow. Your teacher will be able to let you know what size is appropriate to start with. Beginning adults will almost always start with a full size cello, but renting is less of a financial commitment than buying a cello.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home cello lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
All of the teachers in our network are highly qualified and ready to teach so the student will be successful with their instrument. There is no particular method of teaching used in each lesson, as the teacher will work with the student to determine what route will be most successful. All lessons will have aspects of learning proper technique, music theory, and musicianship, as well as anything the student may be interested in learning.

"My daughter has been a student with Mark for over a year. She has come so far and has learned so much in such a short time. Mark is extremely talented and knowledgeable. He is very serious, patient and super nice. If your child or if you really WANT to learn the drums, then I highly recommend Mark. He is our third instructor and the best one yet! You will not be disappointed." Michelle S.

Travis is an extremely knowledgeable guitarist and teacher. Travis is equally comfortable in playing/teaching jazz, rock, blues, or classical styles. I really like the way he explains things and he has the ability to make difficult material seem simpler. Travis is very likeable, enthusiastic, and always very professional. I think Travis would be great teaching either children or adults because he's very patient. My learning experience with Travis has been outstanding. He taught me some great techniques for chord substitution and for soloing. I'll continue to work with Travis because he inspires me to be a better guitarist. I think he could really help me with composing because he writes some great songs too! Thanks Travis!

I am in my 60s and decided to get back into playing my guitar. I thought taking lessons would be a good way to formalize the endeavor. I did have some concern about whether working with a teacher would work out as I've behave only played for my own enjoyment for a long time. Peter and I have had a few lessons together and I am truly enjoying the experience. He is very supportive and flexible. We arrived at a three gold approach that is really working for me. We focus on developing a playlist, learning some of the more iconic tunes from leading artist that I would have a hard time learning on my own and developing some technical skills related to style and music theory. Now I look forward to my next lesson and am already playing better and enjoying the journey. Peter is a great teacher I'm lucky to have the opportunity to work with him.

Laura is the kind of teacher you wish you had in all your studies: gracious, easy-going, light-hearted, yet behind the easy going exterior is an excellent musical mind with everything at her fingertips. I've had about 5 teachers in my life who count as really influential people, and Laura easily fits that category. She lets you be yourself so that you are fully present rather than old-school doctrinaire style, what I call "stiff as a German, sig-heil" teachers. She's the polar opposite. Brava, Laura! Thank you so much!

Martina has been a great teacher. Our son is 8 and had taken some piano lessons before starting with Martina. She came right in and got him to improve. She does a great job of giving him just enough of a challenge to make him work and learn but not any pieces that are so overwhelming he can't get them. She has helped him through a lot of early music theory so that he not only can play the piano but understands the music he is reading in all of its complexity.

Ed is THE best instructor I've ever had and I've had many instructors over the years in various fields of study. Ed met us at a music store to help choose a guitar, this is after he first called and asked all the right questions. He's supplied my daughter with just the right amount of paper work and just the right amount of new techniques. By this I mean to say that Ed connects with the pace my daughter learns at. I highly recommend Ed AND Musika.

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! She has a knack for taking the material and translating it in a way that is relatable to Isabella. My daughter really enjoys her lesson's and has moved along rather quickly with the material. Thanks Lilly!

I've been taking lessons from Michael once a week for eight weeks now, and with his help I have made dramatic improvements with my sax. Michael is a funny, nice, patient and all around great instructor. I'd recommend Michael, as an instructor, to anyone who wants to improve their skills and have fun while doing it.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
