For very beginning and young students we will usually begin with just a book or two. We will work on the basics of how to drum (holding sticks, striking the drum, etc) as well as learning basic notation. Very early on I like to show everyone how to play something as simple as a rock groove, that is much easier than it sounds. I will teach with some of the Agostini's books for every level, and some books that I used in school. We will learn, develop rudiments, grooves, concepts ideas, independance together and make it fun. For young students, the Suzuki method is great, since the repertoire is all fun! Also the CD that comes with every level is vital! Children enjoy and benefit from that. As of this updated bio due to COVID-19 (Nov. 2020), Greg has been doing a hybrid format of teaching, primarily through Zoom with some in person instruction while maintaining orders of social distancing and wearing masks.
