In 2010 I attended Santa Monica College where I was a member of the SMC Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. I continued my studies on my own via private instructors and mentors from orchestral, pop, and world music backgrounds. Professionally I have performed with drum ensembles such as Street Drum Corps and the NYC broadway show STOMP. Read More

I've taught privately for over 30 years and have been teaching from my home studio in South Pasadena since 1994. Everyone who studies with me deserves as thorough a musical education as I can give them. I discuss both short and long term objectives with all new students (or their parents) before the first lesson. While its important for the teacher not the student to establish the course of study, I believe that sticking to a rigid ideology is a mistake. Read More

I always want the best for my students and want them to be able to go as far they want to go with drums. I like starting students off with reading since it helps with understandingrhythm and will make your practice time more well-spent. If you can read music you can get any drum book and just read through it,play like the stars. PRETTY COOL! I also teach hand technique which was taught to me from a direct student of JOE MORELLO. For the begginer I like to start by exploring and accessing their ability to do anything musical in the drumset while showing them some very basic and familiar drum beats. Shortly after I introduce them to the foundations and building blocks of drum playing through visual, auditive cues as well as introducing music theory knowledge. Music reading is one of the most important skill to learn as you progress. Drum Books will be used for the classes For intermediate and Advance , I also make an accessment to find out where they are in terms of drum technique, drum culture, all the music styles that they are familiar as well as unfamiliar with. I like to mix instructional books with opportunities to learn songs outside of the text books appropriate to the student's interests, style, and skill level. For the guitar, I like Terry Carter's Rock Like the Pros, Beginning Class Guitar Method and Intermediate Class Guitar Method. These books have comprehensive practice exercises, including classical and popular music exercises, and great songs of all levels to learn. The Mel Bay and Alfred music method books are also great for guitar or drums. Read More
