My teaching experience dates back to when I was a student at the Los Angeles High School for the Arts. While pursuing my own education I also had five private drum students ranging from the ages of 7-15. I am fortunate enough to have learned a great deal about teaching all different ages from my father, who has been a private guitar teacher for over 35 years. During my time at Berklee College of Music, I taught group clinics and while our tour with the Karen Lovely Band I mentored mentally handicapped music students in the Netherlands with a group called United By Music. Seeing people pick up an instrument and learning to create music has always been really cool. I learned to play the drums at age 11, and after taking piano classes in high school, I went to Cal Poly Pomona to study music composition. It was during this time that I began providing lessons in both instruments to students of all ages. The best part for me is always that moment when it clicks with the student. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, when I began teaching beginning students of all instruments 10 years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in their homes, my home, and online for the past 5 years. Ive found that introducing students to as many different styles of music as possible goes a long way in helping students enjoy playing their instrument and listening to recordings of their instrument. Hello! I'm a Drummer and Percussionist who loves to share the gift of rhythm and music with others. In 2010 I attended Santa Monica College where I was a member of the SMC Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. I continued my studies on my own via private instructors and mentors from orchestral, pop, and world music backgrounds. Professionally I have performed with drum ensembles such as Street Drum Corps and the NYC broadway show STOMP. Read More

Its a great jumping off point to work on finger placement, rhythm and picking; all the while we get to learn a song, too! My intermediate students have focus heavily on musicianship. With these types of students I often play (or jam) with them during lessons. This gives them the chance to start really listening and to use their skills to function as a musician. I find students who miss out on this can often play lots of songs but sometimes are missing solid rhythm and finger placement work. Read More

My teaching style is generally laid back. I believe that a student will only work as hard as they want to, and I have little control over that. I focus more on finding out what will make the student want to work hard, rather than forcing them to study something that does not interest them. It's all about getting the student to have a positive musical experience. That being said, I do my best to hold my students accountable, but try to do so in an encouraging way vs. a nagging and controlling way. Read More
