I've taught privately for over 30 years and have been teaching from my home studio in South Pasadena since 1994. Everyone who studies with me deserves as thorough a musical education as I can give them. I discuss both short and long term objectives with all new students (or their parents) before the first lesson. While its important for the teacher not the student to establish the course of study, I believe that sticking to a rigid ideology is a mistake. Read More

One of my strengths as a teacher is being able to adapt to wide variety of learning styles and skill levels. I don't teach all my students the exactly same way, because not all students learn in the same way. I am all about creating a fun, positive learning environment. I am proud of the fact that many of my students I have today I have had since I started teaching, and I think a big part of that is the relaxed but productive learning environment I strive to create. I've been teaching since college, teaching percussion ensembles and private percussion lessons, before eventually branching out into teaching private lessons on all the instruments I know! Since my time as a teacher, I've worked with hundreds of students and have become proud of all the growth I've seen in them. Working with so many students has also been educational for me as a teacher, and I've begun to develop methods through that experience that I can bring to new students. Read More

I love to teach cause I loved the teachers I had. What they played, what they taught me and what they said. And that's my approach. Music is not just notes. Music is an experience, a fun one. Technique, styles, reading, rudiments, playing with the click, tempo exercises, coordination,...All ages and specific inquires are welcome! My goal is you to have good times playing! Both piano and drums students I offer the possibility of playing along with the student to make it a lot of fun and richer! Read More

The methods have to suit the child and vice versa. I like to began all students by really getting to know their (and their parents') ability, history, desires, needs, wants, ect. I like to base my teaching pedagogy purely around the child, the family, and their learning skills. Everybody is different and it's my job to explore all avenues that the student wants to accomplish in their musical experience. I have taken classes and studied Kodaly, Suzuki, and various other psychological approaches to education. Read More

My methods depends on the skill level and interest of the student. Fundamentals are key, but I always try to incorporate them with music that the student is interested in learning. I believe that music should never be boring, and practicing should never be a chore! I also believe that musicians of all skill levels can and should improvise, as it is a fundamental form of creative expression that is often overlooked by classically trained musicians. Read More

Teaching the most basic concepts in how to build a chord or a scale by using formulas is my favorite way to approach the lesson. An individual's understanding of music is always changing therefore I feel it is better to change with them. Using methods which are proven is important, but the idea of improvisation during a lesson always keeps the interest for me and the student. Of course this depends completely on the age and the experience of a student. Read More
