Now I've recently moved to LA to pursue the next stage of my teaching and recording career. In the last few years, I've attained recognition and close partnerships with some of the industry's leading producers for excellence in songwriting, overall musicianship, and the potential for a long-term recording career. Some of these producers include Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, U2, Tom Petty) - Former vice president of A&M Records and nominee for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Ross Hogarth (Van Halen, Ziggy Marley, Motley Crue) - Three-time Grammy winner and top LA engineer, Toby Wright (Alice In Chains, Metallica, Kiss) - Top alternative/hard rock producer of the 90s and 2000s, and Nick Didia (Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Bruce Springsteen) - 40 millions record sold. From beginner to advanced, I believe in the classic's like " Ted Reed's Syncopation ", " Stick Control " " The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary As Taught by Alan Dawson ". I believe the best tool is MUSIC. Playing along with music or musicians will ultimately help the most. But fundamentals are a must. Push/Pull or Open/Close Technique will help develop hand speed around the drum set. Finger technique will help with fast drum patterns and single stroke roll speed. Read More

I like to emphasize what good practice means and how it relates to my students' goals. I then teach larger musical concepts through the pieces of music that my student wants to learn in order to maintain motivation and interest- music is meant to be fun and enjoyable after all! I'm happy to head in whatever direction my student wants, whether thats continuing to learn songs, making thier own music, or delving more into music theory and intrumental techniques. Read More

My teaching style is goal-oriented and centers on positive reinforcement. This should be fun, not a chore. I love creating weekly/monthly/yearly goals so the student has something tangible to work towards. That might be a showcase for parents, a more formal recital, or an audition for a group! Each student brings a unique perspective to the lesson room, which is what makes it so exciting for me. No two students are the same, which mean I can learn something from the student as well. My teaching experience goes back to my early/mid-teens, when I used to secretly be asked to sub for my drum teacher at the music school I was attending. I had his students, all older than me! We had such a great time and I am very lucky to have had such great teachers myself. All along my professional career, I have always had private students from time to time. Read More

I always start my lessons with the basics. You have to learn the rudiments. We start with a book called stick control and move on to syncopation and more. We learn to hold the sticks the right way so you can play any technique later on. We concentrate on control and sounding clean. We move on to drum beats and fills . Eventually we learn syncopation with hands and feet. We learn dynamics and reading music..... Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with CAGED System. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance looking into different genres such as RnB, Blues, Rock, Pop, Jazz. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. 5 minutes of warm up, 25 of theory, 20 of repertoire and 5 of talking about the next class.
