From Newbreed to Chapin to Afro-Cuban Rhythm for drum set, there are many methods that are worth exploring. That being said, sometimes learning songs (covers) can be the best way to learn quickly and it can be a lot of fun. Something I've done many times too is writing precise exercises for students in order to address and target specific needs. Let's say a student has difficulty with his ghost notes on his/her left hand, I can easily come up with fun exercises in order to speed up the progress and get improvements for that student. I began playing drums at the age of 12 when I joined my middle school marching band. By the time I was in high school, my passion for music making and involvment with various performing groups had completely consumed me. I decided to further my musical endeavors by studying jazz performance at two different music schools. I have obtained a bachelors degree from Florida State University (2012) and a masters degree for the California Institute of the Arts (2014). Read More

I have been teaching since 2012 while still in school. Once entering Berklee College of Music I started to work as part of the Vocal and Piano Departments to help incoming students with learning how to write charts and play with a band. I have taught internationally in places such as China and Vietnam and created full curriculum for International camps around Vietnam. I am currently teaching a few remote students and have taught ensemble classes and VQT Music Academy in Garden Grove, California Read More

My style caters to each student individually, we all have an idea on what we want out of our instrument. Some people just want to jam and others want a career, Im here for both. Wherever you want to be on that grid, I can get you there. Growing up, i wanted to be a drum tech rather a performer..crazy right? As i progressed in school, i realized "tech" skills served more than i thought. Read More

As an instructor I focus on my students weaknesses in order to produce as much progress as possible. I strive to find out what my students are really trying to get out of drums whether it’s just for fun, to be famous, or in order to start a band. I love to cater my curriculum to students favorite genres in order to keep them interested. As a drummer myself I understand that some stuff can get boring so I try to add in different aspects to make my lessons more entertaining. Read More

I approach teaching in layers. Step one leads to step two, we cant skip steps! I find it important that for beginners we follow this structure. More advanced students will be on a case by case basis in regards to where we start. I emphasize imprivisation in every lesson weather it be on drums, piano or trombone. Playing music right off the top of your head, and in the moment is something you can't learn out of a book! Read More

For very beginning and young students we will usually begin with just a book or two. We will work on the basics of how to drum (holding sticks, striking the drum, etc) as well as learning basic notation. Very early on I like to show everyone how to play something as simple as a rock groove, that is much easier than it sounds. Drumming is something that can sometimes be very hard to work at but it is always nice for a student to see that it is possible and with just that much work they have already achieved that! Read More
