For me it is really important to establish a personal relationship with the student and always evaluate how they feel about their progress on a weekly basis. I always emphasis that a student know what style or genre of music they are interested in because they are more likely to stick to something that they have a natural passion for. Every lesson officially starts with a scale warm up to get the blood flowing to the players fingers and from there we go to either some sight reading pieces from the Hal Leonard books, chord changing or soloing exercises, and then lastly go to practicing a specific song of either mine or the students choosing.
